Hello All,

Its been a while since we have had a chat about how everyone is doing in the Book Bazaar. I've been out of  town on and off all summer. Work is finally picking up as well. So I have not had a chance to post in here lately. How is everyone doing? Getting rid of alot of books? Picking up alot of books? Comments, complaints, suggestions? Add your thoughts about  anything, the bazaar, fall, whatever.

Keep in mind the Book Bazaar is for EVERYONE. So its best not to post a new deal everyday. True it doesn't state that in the rules, however, your fellow BB folks like to try to keep things fair.

Bumping is only allowed 1x a day. So if your going to bump your own post, pick the time you want to do it.

If you offer a deal your books MUST meet PBS posting guidelines. UNLESS, you mention in the deal the books are unpostable or damaged. Offering a deal does not mean that you can give a non postable book in exchange for a postable one. It can be frustrating for the member to order a deal and find that they have been sent something they can't post themselves.

Nice to see everyone using the monthly threads.

So lets hear from you all. :)

Hi Bernie! I've been staying away from the BB for a while. My shelves are overflowing. But I couldn't resist last night. LOL. Was in a shopping mood and didn't want to spend the $$. So what did I do? Order more books from the book bazaar!

I would love it if those offering deals just mention what genres you have on your shelf.

Oh, that's a good idea Kim!  I know I've hit shelves that are only romance and I wouldn't have bothered if I'd known that :-)

BB has really helped get books moving off my shelf.  I have many popular books, but the downside of bestsellers is that there is already quite a glut in the system and my newness places me so far down in FIFO they wouldn't move without a "deal".   Also, its always nice to be able to give folks more for a credit.  When I joined I saw a forum post in one of the other forums mentioning that the Book Bazaar was a great place to post damaged books.  I thought it was a separate website and googled it... it took me a while to realize that it was a forum here in PBS.  I have had a lot of fun placing specials and ordering from other specials here in the Book Bazaar.

I need to stay away from here until I work down my 60+ books in my TBR pile!  I'm addicted to bargains though so it will be hard to keep me away too long.

I will say that the few times I've done a 2/1 or 3/1 nada....

*lol* Overflowing shelves can be a problem due to the book bazaar.

I have suggested that folks ad the genre to their deals. It can be frustrating to check out a deal, only to find out the shelf has nothing you want to read. :)

I love noodling around the Book Bazaar for bargains, but it kind of boggles my mind when I read an offer from someone about having "lots" of books to clear out -- and when I look at their shelf, there are maybe 20 books. I have more books than that sitting beside my chair, and full bookshelves in practically every room of the house.  And I'm still always looking for more. ;-)

Book Bazaar is so much fun!  It's like a big on-line fleamarket.  I've had great success finding deals, offering deals, locating boxers, and meeting all around nice people.   My TBR pile runneth over, I have at least 8 years worth of reading material.

Lately there have been a number of 2 for 1s and 3 for 1s.  It seems like I keep looking at the same list over and over but I'm not sure how to avoid it.

Thanks to whoever suggested keeping books in the car I would never have thought about that.  So I'm off to look for more deals now that I have more space available.

I do keep running into the same deals (cuz I am addicted & keep checking back so frequently).  I try to remember what tag line, nickname &/or avatars I have seen before.  HAHAHAHAHA

Hopeful wish is for the deals that I have clicked open become a different color as opposed to those that I haven't seen yet.

Whew - I am so glad to know I am not the only bookaholic.  I think I have 20 books on each side of my chair and bookcases in every room and also in the hall. Hadn't thought of leaving a few bags in the car. Thanks for the tip. I try to skim the offerings at yard sales without actually stopping but dang - look -there is a big box of books. Then I have to stop. The last place they were only 5 cents each. I couldn't leave them there, could I? No!

I have a little bit of everything on my shelf. Maybe heavy on the mystery end.

I've been having WAY too much fun in the bazaar lately. All these awesome 3 for 1 deals. I finally got a nice stash of credits and just couldn't resist!

Books in the car for me, too.  Actually, about 1/3 of my TBR pile is in a crate in the car because it's too heavy for me to easily move back into the house after taking it with me to SC.  Of course, some books got added to it while I was there visiting my parents.  I always keep something to read in the car because I always have to wait for my grandmother places (like the store).  I get done with my shopping and go out to the car to wait and read while she finishes her shopping.  She always takes forever so I get in 20-30 minutes of reading then.

OK, I have a little pet peeve to mention.  First let me state, that I absolutely love the Wishlist Books with Different ISBN thread.  That thread was such a great idea!  However, what irritates me is when a person lists books that are obviously only wishlisted by one or two people, and there are other versions in the hundreds available in the system.  For instance, I'll make up an example:  Jane Doe posts that she has these following wishlisted books with different isbns:  The Chamber by John Grisham, Lucky by Jackie Collins, and Dragonsong by Anne McCaffrey.  The problems is, the wishlisted versions are 1) only wishlisted by a handful of people and 2) are most likely wishlisted because of their version -- like a certain hardcover to complete a collection or something similar.  The site is filled with hundreds of copies of some of these books people are posting on the thread.  In these cases, I'm pretty sure most people are aware there are alternate ISBNs available.  I think the main intent of the thread was for books that legitimately have different ISBNs that would be accepted by the people wishing for other ISBNs.  The people not looking for a certain version and who may not be aware of a new or different ISBN.

Thanks for being the Book Bazaar Czar, Bernie!!!!

Hi Bernie,

Book Bazaar has been great. Between all the deals here and BoB, my shelves are overloaded. But I love it!:) I would like to reiterate some of the points already made:

1. Please list what kind of books are your shelf so that people know whether they should go look at your shelf or not. I realize a lot of people leave that out deliberately hoping to lure people to look at their shelves but it just cheeses me off. On the other hand, I have found a book I was looking for which was the only book of that genre among a host of others. But then I couldn't find any other books to take advantage of the deal.

2. People need to be realistic about their wording. I have had similar experience with deals stating they have "tons of books" only to find about 20-30 books on their shelf.  Or to state HUGE DEALS to find a 2 for 1 being offered when you read the post. Hyperbole has its place but I think a lot of members are walking a very thin line.

That being said, I haven't really had books flying off my shelf (except when I offered a 4 for 1 on my birthday :) ). But it is all good.

I love the Book Bazaar ... my TBR hates it!! LOL

The one thing I wish we could do (and I know it's been mentioned before) is if we could "sticky" the monthly threads so they're always on the front page.

I think I read that R&R didn't want to make a lot of "sticky" threads, but someone else mentioned that maybe we could have one like they do in the Games Forum for Games taking sign-ups ... then one person can update with links to the actual threads each month .... (I'd even volunteer if necessary, since I can't take vacations around the first of the month due to my job so I'd pretty much always be around...)

I stopped by this AM to add my unpostable deals to the October thread, and had a tough time finding it, and it's only the 3rd!!  By the 10th or 15th, when I might want to update my list ... that thing can be on page 9 or 10!

As for the posting genres in the deals, I try not to let that bother me, because I've found enough books that I would expect to be in one genre, that are listed in a different one, that I pretty much go look anyway ....

Good point about the hyperbole, too!  LOL ... My eyes sometimes hurt from rolling when some HUGE shelf has 26 books on it .... I remember seeing someone offer 3-for-1, and they had less than a dozen books on their shelf!!  UGH!

Since the threads can't be stuck,  make them "Watched topics" and then they will all be in one spot and you don't have to look for them. Its a great feature. Its how I keep track of threads I start, swaps and threads in here I want to keep track of.

I would be lost without the Watched Topics page. In fact I have the Watched Topic page, My PBS account page, book Bazaar all bookmarked in a separate group on my browser so I can go there directly if I have to.

What's the big secret?  Why don't people say in the subject line what they're looking for?  I might have it, but if not, it doesn't matter to either one of us.

<sigh> Mini-rant is over.

Valerie, I hate that too!  It really makes me crazy.  I'll be reading through the thread and see a book listed and think, okay, there are like 200 copies of that in the system....give me a break!   It's just not helpful.

I've had really good luck clearing out a bunch of books over the last couple weeks.  I've been running a 3 for 1.  Between that and my 2-for-1 at bookmooch, I've whittled my shelf from 160+ to 110+.  And it's been all kinds of books - self-improvement, thrillers, literature.  The post office lady doesn't ask me for my id any more!

I don't know if it helped, but I added a list of my books sorted by genre (at least what I thought the genre was) in my first post.  I figured it people were searching for an author or title, that would bring up my post.  Also, the sort by genre feature omits a lot of things so I thought my list was more complete and useful. I'm not sure that it helped, but I suspect it did.

As for ordering, I'm on a quest for 100 credits, so I am really being conservative with my ordering right now.
