I have posted a couple of books and was surprised that they were not requested right away.  When I searched for them, the only thing that comes up is 'Buy it New' or 'Post this Book'.  Why doesn't it show up?  Both of these are harcover books if that makes a difference.

They sound like WL books.  If you just posted them then they should be in either the WL Hold tab or they're under the 1hr Buyers Remorse for autorequested WL books.

THe binding doesn't matter.  Which books are you talking about?

I think Mary nailed it.  If the books were on members' wishlists, then as soon as you posted them they were offered to the first member in line for that ISBN.  The member has 48 hours to respond to your offer.  If you go to your My Account page and scroll down below the light blue "message from the librarian" box, you should see any active transaction on your active transaction tabs.  These two books are probably on your "wish list holds" tab.  They'll be there until the other member responds.

There is also that hour hold where the book disappears.  For auto-request books.  They will show up after an hour in your main account page.

They should stay on your shelf though with a ! sayiing "pending on 1hrs buyers remorse" or something like that. Unless they changed that. I don't see the point of the 1hr buyers remorse for autorequested WL books.  I bet most people don't even notice them until they are already past that. I'm here all the time and I don't notice them until their enroute to me half the time.

They show up on your bookshelf, but not on your public bookshelf.  It depends on which view you are on.  You need to be on the view with the posted and the hold books, sorted by title or date to see all of your books.

Sort by authors hides books.  Public bookshelf view also hides books.

But I agree.  If we cannot cancel the auto request books, why can't they show up in the wish list hold tab?  It would be much less confusing.
