I just received a paperback book that has 2 corners of the front cover cut off. The bottom right and the upper right corners are cut off in like a diagonal way. Is this ok?  Should I rwap it?  And is it repostable?   It doesn't interfere with the reading of the book, and you can still see the title and author just fine.

Cover:

  • Must both be present (front and back)
    • note that a paperback missing its front cover is  usually an illegal, unsold copy
    • "cover" does not = dust jacket.  Hardcovers do not need to include their dust jackets to be swapped here.
  • Cover not water damaged (there may be no water damage to any part of the book)
  • Cover not significantly torn, or chewed/gnawed at all
    • some used book stores cut out a small part of the cover; if the amount missing is less than 1 square inch, this is OKAY
    • a small rip (less than 1.5 inches) in the cover is OKAY
    • yes, that does say "chewed/gnawed" above.  That means no pet-chewed (or human-chewed) books.
  • A bookplate inside the cover or on the flyleaf is OKAY

Yea I read that. But I still wasn't sure.  Guess it's hard to

tell without a picture

Just take a ruler and measure the page exposed by the cut corners. No bigger than 1 inch long by 1 inch high should be missing from each corner. A straight cut or tear can't be more than 1 1/2 inches on cover.

How far from the corner is each one cut? You have two triangles missing, each are roughly half a square. If the distance from the corner to the cut (along an edge) is more than one inch, technically that violates the guideline. If it is close, I would give them the benefit of the doubt.

My personal feeling is that if you need a ruler in order to tell for sure, then it is postable.

Just like if the book has some flaw that you can only see in bright sunlight if you hold the book at a 27° angle to the sun and squint with one eye closed. IMO, that's postable too.
