Go ahead and mark them RWAP.  You are probably going through a run of bad luck books.  Hopefully that will end soon and the good books will start coming your way.

Unfortunately, for a site composed of READERS, there are many members who feel that reading the site guidelines is too much of a hassle.  Or they feel that the rules just don't apply to them.

I'm sorry you've had to experience a few of these jokers recently.  Just take a deep breath, mark the books received with a problem (definitely follow site rules and report them so that if they make a habit of sending unpostables, the site admins will deal with them!) and wait for the good books to come.  It will happen.  There are so many GOOD members of this site, far more than the few bad apples you've had to deal with lately.

PS I repeat, DON'T feel bad about reporting them.  It helps ALL of us in the long run, and if your sending members are not bad characters, the one ding on their record won't hurt them.  (In fact, it will help them in remembering to check their books more carefully before sending them out!)  But if they are the LOSERS that continually send out bad books, you are helping us all by helping to weed them out!

Definitely!  Report them.... it won't help anyone if people are allowed to continually disregard the rules.  I am sorry that you are going through this bad run.... I am sure that you aren't doing anything wrong.  In this case, not only did these senders disregard the PBS guidelines, but they ALSO disregarded your RCs!  So they can't even claim ignorance since they had to accept the conditions before sending you the book.... don't feel bad.

Truly, for those who don't want to read the rules, if you even read through the information that is given when you post the book, you have some clue as to whether a book is postable or not, and I'm sure that most of us read those few rules at least once before we posted our first book, so those who send damaged books, IMHO, do it knowing that the book isn't  postable, and feel that they can get away with it.

You have to wonder how often the receiver just doesn't post a RWAP because they feel they're doing something bad?  To me, if I receive a book that I feel is unpostable, I request my credit back.  If those who post 'unpostables' were to get enough of those, they'd stop posting books that shouldn't be posted.  Pat

You're not doing anything wrong.  Some people simply can't read or follow the rules.

So I had my first RWAP experience this week. I simply followed the rules, PM'd the member and explained the situation and that I was unhappy because this was my first problem at PBS. I also asked for my credit back. I was hesitant to even do this in the first place, but since the book had water damage, I felt I needed to do it. Well, my worries came true when the member sent me a very rude email back saying I was "abrasive." Was I not supposed to admit there was a problem with the book?

People who knowingly send out unpostable books are usually the ones who get their panties in a wad about giving a credit back.  Those who do it by accident usually have no problem giving credits back, and are apologetic about it, too, IMO.

It looks like the person did give me my credit back--I just don't understand the rudeness. If you can't say anything nice, just send the credit back and be done with it.

Yep!  That mirrors my experience as well.

I received a large paperback awhile back that was popped into an envelope with no tape or other packaging.  The envelope was tattered by the time it got to me and one corner of the binding was crushed.  I approached the PM to the sender assuming they were a newbie and told them how necessary tape is and that the book was unpostable.

I thought I worded it very gently but I too got a very rude response back and to boot she gave me a "sheesh, its only a book".  How annoying, of course its only a book but if everyone put just a little effort into following the guidelines, more folks could be happy (and not wasting their time/credits).  Luckily, even with the stink she made, she gave me my credit back.

Susan, hang in there....you'll get past this bad run.  There are bad eggs here but way more good ones!  ;)

Lauren

Whenever I recommend this site to others I explain UP FRONT that the books need to be in EXCELLENT condition to be eligible for swap. Books that are merely "readable" don't belong here. The books that I swap here are books that I am proud to display on my shelf. EVERYONE should follow the guidelines.
