Okay.  Here's something that annoys me.  I hate hate hate when they have models on the front covers of books that look nothing like the character in the book.  I think they should at least use someone mildly close to the character description to give you more of a feel for them.  For example, on No Rest for the Wicked by Kresley Cole (one of my favorite series) they have a girl with redish/brown hair, and Kaderin has white/blonde hair.  I know this should be the worst thing that ever happens ;-) but it's annoying just the same.

Maybe they should use graphic artists for covers if they can't find models that are right for the part.  Although I can't say as I mind some of the hot guys they use on romance books....LOL  Thoughts???

I completely agree!  I would prefer they not use models at all and just let me imagine what they would look like. The majority of the time the person  I picture is way hotter than the person they use on the book.   I don't picture Georgina from the Succubus books looking like she does on the cover, or the character (for some reason can't remember her name) from Storn Born either.  There's one of the Vampire Academy books that has a character on the front that not even the writer can identify!  Sometimes I think they don't even read the book or try to match them up at all.

OMG Thank you.  This has bugged me for so long.  There's one guy, kinda cute, with short dark hair that I've seen in the store on three different books at the same time.  (Three different authors, BTW.)  I would just soon they didn't use models at all either.  My own imagination works just fine, thank you very much.

That is hilarious!  I've never noticed the same person on more than one!

I hate 90% of the covers of paranomral books.  The half naked men bug me to no end.  Computer generated covers irk me the most!

Doesn't the whole Nathan Kamp book cover thing remind you of Claude the male stripper in the Sookie books.  I loved the characterization of the guy that is not into women AT ALL in all these sexy poses on the covers of romance books.

I too am very put off when the couple pictured on the covers is nothing like the characters in the books.  It just doesn't seem possible that covers are produced so cheaply that no one is forced to care about this discrepancy.

Ashley, I almost did a spit take on on my computer when I looked at that link!!! That is the funniest thing I have ever seen!

Yeah, my husband likes to look at all the books I get in for a good laugh.

Smart Bitches Trashy Books covers cover art often.  They get some real winners.  Both new and vintage.  Three hands on the guy?  Same photo on two different authors?  They find them.

I like it when they do artistic renderings (I mean actually done by an artist) specifically for a book. It has become more rare, and even through it still doesn't surpass my imagination, it doesn't compete for it either.

I don't like the whole well, didn't read the book, don't need to... he's a hottie so slap him on the cover.

Hm... slap.. hot guy, nice glutes.... Oops... sorry I digressed... lol

I think it varies widely.   C E Murphy and Laura Anne Gilman have some nice art.  Mark del Franco has Nathan with really bad backgrounds.   Lynn Viehl has a nice style, not all are great but all fit well together.   I have Kresley Cole's Wicked... on my shelf.  Really lame cover.  And while the Mercy books by Briggs have nice art, the art does not fit the story. (Only ONE tattoo.)

I am so tired of a back alley with dark light and one or two people with tattoos and a weapon.  Add the coat or cape.

I keep remembering that Meyer's Twilight has almost the same art as one of C S Lewis's books.  (But I do like that cover art.)

That's him...Nathan Kamp.  Three different books one day.  I didn't want to buy any of them because of that.

Okay. Ashley, I about peed my pants when I saw that Nathan Kamp link.  You were so not exaggerating.  He was a damn hot commodity last year.  Granted, he's HOT, but come on.

OHHHH, what I also hate is when they use horrible people for the cover models, makes the character even look ugly.... example MOON CALLED.  What were they thinking with that one?

LOL, I didn't even notice that there was a guy in the backgroud of The Devil's Due by Jenna Black until I went to that Nathan Kamp link....

I like Jim Butchers covers, they fit the books, also Rob Thurman's series. Another interesting one is Simon R. Green's nightside series, different covers there.

I think YA's have gotten some awesome covers lately

Rob Thurman's and Jim Butcher's seem like the marketing or art department actually reads the book.  Same with some of the Luna covers.

I remember there was a period that romance covers had flowers and objects on the cover rather than man titty.  And there was a very short time with lots of leather clad hips.  Now we seem to be getting back to the too skinny women in high heels.  Come on art departments, have you ever tried to run and hunt vamps whille wearing heels?   The over skinny women in heels are more offensive to me than Nathan's man titty airbrushed in the background.  (Which I am very tired of.)

The other cover that I'm really tired of is the group of mean catty looking girls on the YA covers.  Come on, at least make them look like they care about their friendships.  No more back stabbing groups, please.  Some of the YA covers are great.  And some make me so glad that I'm not in high school.

I guess the cover art doesn't bother me. I don't buy a book for the cover.

What can I say, I've become addicted to the blog Smart Bitches, Trashy Books.  Man titty is their term.  They are even more snarky than I am in some of their reviews.  Just because I read paranormal romances does not mean that I'm brainless.
