I have two hardcover Harry Potter books (goblet of fire and chamber of secrets) which don't have the covers but are in very good condition.

Are these type of books ok to swap?

I am assuming you mean the dust jacket when you say cover and the hard cover is still on it? Yes, dust jackets are not required. If someone wants the dust jacket they would need to have a Requester Condition stating that. If you get a Requester Condition for the dust jacket, you just say that your book doesn't meet the conditions and it will be offer to the next person who wants it.

Phew thanks. :D Thought I was going to have to dump the books. I've had them for so long and didn't want to put them to waste.

Please do not just dump books, so many of us here would adopt them and give them a home . Check the sites book conditions; hey you found the forums!

If you are talking more than the DJ, if you are meaning the complete covers are missing, then you need to go to the Book Bazaar forum, and list them, detailing that the cover is completely missing, and asked if anyone wants them. Make sure you state that the complete cover is missing, not just the DJ and I'm sure you will get a taker that just wants to read the books, not take it to a fashion show.

From the Help Center swappability page

http://www.paperbackswap.com/help/help_item.php?id=205

Cover:

Must both be present (front and back)

  • note that a paperback missing its front cover is  usually an illegal, unsold copy

And from the same help doc listed by NewRuth:

Hardbacks do NOT have to include their dustjackets.

So book without a cover: no

Book without a dust jacket, yes

That was what I was indicating, Patty. From what the OP said, I wasn't sure if they meant just the DJ was missing, or if they meant the complete cover was missing. I didn't want them to post a book that didn't have a cover, which isn't allowed. It is allowed on another site, so I just wanted to make sure they were clear on which is and isn't allowed. :)

Patty, I think I'd look of the msg from the OP again to make sure which they meant. If they meant It is allowed on another site, so I just wanted to make sure they were clear on which is and isn't allowed. :)
