I posted a board book, on the very last page there are little lights in the fireflies that are supposed to light up when you turn to that page. But presumably the batteries are dead, the lights do not light up. I PM'd the requestor a few days ago and have not heard a response.

The rules say you can send it, but I probably wouldn't.

From the Help doc Book Condition Criteria for 'Swappability' at PBS,

  • Books that require batteries to work do NOT have to have working batteries.

Actually, there are some very strict rules about mailing batteries. What types are okay. What kinds are considered fire risk. It is often better to remove the batteries.

I'm with Emily I'd remove the Batteries totally, I might put a note in to let them know I took the batteries out because of mailing and where they went and what kind to put back in.  It seems totally reasonable not to mail a book with batteries!

I agree, remove batteries (if possible) and note battery/number size on the shipping insert/receipt.

Most of those kids' books with voices or lights do not have removable batteries so the book can' t be used its original way.
