K y'all the top three books all have 3 votes each (and I've voted for all of them already so I can't be the deciding factor) so everyone needs to vote if they haven't already.

Also sorry for abandoning you for the last week we have had zero connection to the interwebs aside from our phones with limited data so I couldn't really do a lot aside from checking for orders and such.

K I guess Melissa voted because The Historian by Elizabeth Kostova got boosted up to the top of the list with 4 votes so that's what we'll read. I already own a copy and it has a discussion guide in it that we'll use so if you want the one I have this is the isbn to order, 0316154547.

If it doesn't break by tomorrow is it cool if I make an executive desicion and go with the top on the list even though the other two have the same number of votes?

I'd prefer the witch book.   The third book listed doesn't have any copies on PBS.

But I can go either way.

I have a copy of The Historian. It's the book I would have picked....BUT I had a hard time deciding if I could commit to a book that long.  So I held off voting so someone else could pick.   909 pages!!

I've finished the Orange book and now I want to read a Jane Austen book before I start The Historian.

Carol you must have a mass market copy, I've got a trade and it's only (relative word there) 697 pages. I held off on it for the same reason as you but I also figured that if it got voted it would give me the motivation to read it finally.

Heather, the list for May is closed already, I usually close it on the 24th of every month but I was without internet until yesterday so it ran a little longer. In May We'll be reading The Historian and discussion Five Quarters of the Orange and there is a new list up for voting for the book to read in June.

Hi everyone! I'm just joining the group. I own a copy of "The Historian" but I don't know if I have time for a 600+ page tome in May. It seems like it would be a great book for discussion, though. Hrm.

Welcome, hro!!  We start the discussion at the beginning of the month, so you could push it a little into the month if you had to.  Start it now and you'll have a few more days on this end too.  Glad to have you as part of this fun book club.

Welcome hro, since you have a copy you'll have a little more than a month to read it in to discuss it with us in June. Thanks for joining in and I hope you have fun with us here in the basement.

C'mon, you can do it in a month. I didn't notice it was so long when I voted, eek, but it will work out. Even if you join a little behind that's fine too hro but I'll bet you can  get it done.

Great!!  Even if you finish a little late you can still join the discussion.  I just answered the first question on this month's book, and I still haven't finished it.  Just jump in when you feel comfortable.  Welcome to the group!

Mine's still on the way too but I'm finally picking up some of my old reading speed again so it shouldn't be a problem. I was getting frustrated at how slow I was reading after leaving it for so long. Good glasses have made a world of difference!

I started today and generally read about sixty - seventy pages a day so I should be done in a week and a half to two weeks.

K I'm at around page 210 and it does pick up to a point that makes me want to continue reading so press on if you think it's too stuffy at first it does get better.

Mine came yesterday, 909 pages. Yikes. It doesn't look too bad though as long as it's interesting.

I've found that pacing myself makes it a less intimidating page count. I've decided to shoot for 67 pages a day because with my copy that is 1/10 of the pages.
