I ordered a wishlist book and received a book I did not order. I understand that the person sending probably had 2 or more orders and got the books mixed up. I read the help documents and understood that I should PM the sender to request my credit back and possibly work out something as far as sending the wrong book back to her or on to the original requestor. But my question is, how do I go about getting back to being first for the book I wishlisted? Do I have to wait for it time out and be marked lost? I also would like to add that the error book I received was severly water damaged to the point of falling apart. So how should I handle this? Thanks for any advice.

Make sure you don't mark the book received.  The transaction information is tied to your WL book so if the sender could get the right book to you, or have the other recipient send it to you then you can mark it received.  Or if you never get it from her, it will end up going lost and your credit will be refunded and you will return to your place in line.  Usually when the sender mixes up books the easiest thing to do is send each recipient two credits and each other's address so they can get the books to each other and then mark received.  In this case, since the book is ruined the other recipient would have to RWAP anyway, so the sender or the other person could just send you the book you actually ordered;, the sender should give the other person two credits. You don't need a refund or postage credit since you won't be sending the book to the other person.  And the other person would get one credit to reorder their book and one credit for postage.  In the end, you'll either get your book from the sender or the other recipent or they won't send it and you'll go back on the WL and your credit will be refunded when your transaction times out.

ETA, the other recipient would need to mark their transaction RWAP, depending on if it was postal damage or unpostable damage.

I did not mark the book received, I PM'd her to ask if she still had the book I ordered still there or not. The book she sent me is definitely damaged and was done prior to mailing. The wrapping was not wet but the whole front half of the book looks like it's been laying in a puddle and is starting to seperate.

Just hate that I have to wait for it to be marked lost to get back in place for my wishlisted book since this order was started this past weekend.

Thanks!

Yes, definitely do NOT mark the book received until you get the correct book from the sender.  Even if the sender has you mail the book to the person that was supposed to get it, don't mark your book received until you have it in your hands.

The sender should buddy you a credit or refund the postage money if they have you mail the book back to them or to the correct recipient.

If you never hear from the sender, you'll get back to #1 on the WL when the book is declared lost by the system.  Sucks that you have to wait that long though.  Hopefully the sender comes thru and gets back to you.
