I posted a book that appears to be on someone else's WL (automatic).  I have had this book on there for about a week and it is coming up as WL Hold.  It is the ISBN and so on.    Anyone have any idea why?

If it's been a week then it's probably cycling through members.  Maybe the 1st person who had it on autorequest was out of credits or cancelled it quickly.  Then it would have  been passed onto the next wisher who may have let it time out or declined it and on it went to another etc..,

If it was on your shelf and then suddenly showed up as WL then the person probably had their account on hold.

No it has been on someone's WL for a long time.  I decided to read it quickly so that I could pass it on to that person and now, well don't know what happened to either them or the system.  Thanks for replying.

Did you post it directly to a specific persons wishlist? There is no way it would remain being offered to the same person for a week. If you posted it to a specific persons wishlist and they didn't have enough credits it would be passed on to the next wisher even if the first had it on automatic. If you just posted it normally it is probably cycling through other wishers as Mary said.

No I didn't post it someone's WL.  Although I wish I could find out who is wishing it.  I just posted it to my bookshelf.  Check my bookshelf if you like (not being a smart butt).  It is The Things We Do For Love  by Kristin Hannah.  ISBN #9780345520807.  It also shows up as one person wishing and on my BIR it is a WLA.

Thanks for the help.

ISBN 9780345520807 currently has nobody wishing for it. If you go to the book details page, you won't see the Members Wishing line in the description. It may be that there was one person wishing for it and her wish was filled by somebody else before you finished reading, or it may be that the person wishing for the book is on vacation. I added that book to my BIR list and don't see a WA or W icon on it.

Ok, that's really strange. If it is showing up as wishlist hold for you it shouldn't be showing on your bookshelf. Additionally, it doesn't look like anyone is wishing for that particular copy at all. If it is still showing as wishlist hold on your end you might want to send a message to the team. Books on wishlist hold shouldn't be showing up as posted on your bookshelf, this sounds like it could be a glitch.

What might have happened is that there was only one wisher, they had it on auto request, but they are no longer active or were out of credits, so the book could not be automatically ordered by them. If there had been other wishers this would have caused the order to be passed on to the next wisher, but since there were none it was just posted to your shelf normally.

There is no reason why it should still be on wishlist hold though, that's something worth going to the team about.

Well accordiing to PBS there are 2 copies of the book posted into the system and I can see the book on your shelf. If it's showing on your main account page under the WL hold tab then you need to contact PBS as this sounds like a glitch. If it's showing under your TBR Pile or BIR as WL-then you can always trust that. Sometimes books will get flagged as WL by a computer glitch.  Or it'll flag a book as WL and then when you click on the book it'll show 0 wishers.  Which could mean it's on someone's WL but they are on hold or there is a pending transaction for the book.

In this case I think you have a glitch if it's showing under the WL Hold tab in your account.

I've had something similar happen to me quite a lot. To the point I no longer pay any attention to the W and Wa on my books. It looks like someone is wanting these books, I hurry up and read them, click post and boom, nothing. No one is waiting. When I check how many books in the system it seems there are plenty. For some reason my bookshelf isn't updating or whatever. And I visit this site from 4 different computers. 3 different stations at work and 1 at home. No one has been able to explain it to me.

As a general rule I would suggest not going out of your way to post a book that only has one wisher. It is so common for wishlist offers to have to cycle through a few dead accounts before someone accepts that only one wisher isn't much of a guarentee that anyone is really waiting for it. I say that even knowing that I am the only wisher on a few rare and hard to come by books.
