I've noticed that a lot of the star ratings I've given books as I read them has disapeared. In fact, I think all of them have.

In Netflix or on Amazon once I rate something by selecting the number of stars I want to give it they're still 'selected' when I go back. I can see what I've rated and what I gave them.

But I've run across books I've read and ranted in the past, and the stars are all dark again. Is it supposed to do that? Were my 'votes' not counted and lost somehow?

Should I rate them all again as I run across them, or leave it be?

I know that some disappeared at some point due to updating the system.  (New features were added and there was a ratings glitch.)  Thought they came back.

Did you check if your rating is on a different version of the same book?  I don't think that the ratings link between versions.

I know I've marked all the Dresden Files books at least once. The one I did yesterday is still lit up, but the rest are all dark again. I've remarked the Rob Thurman "Cal Leandros" series again.

I think they stay up for a while, then months later I notice they're 'blued out' again.

I'm wondering if somehow I'm losing them after a Firefox update or something.

I rate all the versions of the same book the same, except for audio books. I figure the text is all the same, but I might have a different opinion of the audio book if I can't stand the reader's voice or interpretation. So I don't include those.

I read mostly the new paranormals out, so there's usually only two versions at the most, if not only one.

So, if you look at the "Books I've Read" tab on your account ... those have gone back to not rated by you? Do you lose them off that tab. too?

I don't use the "Book I've Read" feature contiously since I don't keep my 'read' list here. So I hardly ever check it.

There are only 16 books on it now, none earlier than Jan 03, 2010. Including the nine I re-marked this weekend when I ran across them in "Books Posted Today" and noticed the stars weren't lit on them.

Those have the stars on them. But the list is missing all the other ones I've marked in the past. And I've marked more than a few in my time.

When you put a star rating on a book, it is automatically added to the BIR.

So, if you don't see a longer list of books in your BIR, they must be disappearing off that list, too.

Probably need to ask PBS about it.

I'm with Sara, send a note to the Admin Team.  You might wait until tomorrow, though.  I think there's some glitchy stuff going on today.

Are you sure they're the same editions? Some books have multiple editions and the rating here only counts towards that edition.

I'l send a note sometime this week. I hadn't noticed anything else glitchy, but no use throwing this in at the same time if they''re busy.

Are you sure they're the same editions? Some books have multiple editions and the rating here only counts towards that edition.

I just pull up all editions of the pull on the search listed, posted or unposed, and mark them all the same.

Just not the audiobooks, and not the book sets unless I'm ranking the whole set after reading them all.

So, for example, I've at one time or another (I think twice now) rated all the editions of "Storm Front" by Jim butcher. But I pull them up now and they're all that 'unranked by you' blue. So that's eight that have 'disapeared' on me, just from the one title.

Okay, thing I've found what's going on. Had an "aHa!" moment.

Everyonce in a while, when I'm in the mood, I go through and clean up my lists. My WL, Reminder List, PM messages, stuff like that. I've been cleaning out my BIR list because I don't use it at all, and am not interested to see how many are WL'd.

So wrote down the ones I had on there, deleted the list...

And all the ratings disapeared.

Even the rating for the ones I'd written a review for, and I think you have to rate them before you can review them now.

Urgh.

So you can't remove a book from your BIR list without removing your ranked opinion of it.
