I am looking for some help, and realized this might be the best place to go.

I am looking into getting either a book reader or a tablet. I started out wanting a book reader, then thought having a tablet with everything combined was a good idea. I mainly want to use it to read. Looking into the tablets I am rethinking the book reader again, they seem to have a few advantages in what I want it for in the first place.  I am leaning toward the Nook Color now. Any thoughts on this? What are your own experiences with either?

Thanks!

Jeannie Smith

LCD sucks to read long term on. Eink is the way to go if you plan on reading on it for any substantial length of time. The new Nook simple touch reader blows the Kindle out of the water in almost every way. I'd check into that one if I was you.

You should think of the Nook Color as a Tablet.  Isn't it backlight?  Without the anti-glare eInk?

I have a tablet and an eReader.  I cannot read on the tablet for long periods.  Short bursts works great.  The eRead holds it charge for a week of reading.  The tablet needs charging almost every night if I'm using it.  (I've heard you can often turn down the backlight to a lower setting to save the battery charge.)

Do you read in Sunlight?  Then eInk.

Do you read in bed and need a light?  Then tablet.

Do you read one handed,  such as while eating or standing in line?  Smaller size then matters.

Think carefully about customer service.  B & N's really sucks.  (If you buy a Nook at Best Buy or elsewhere, could you use their customer service rather than BN?  Ask!)

B&N Customer Sevvice Sucks Big time!!   And you Need a Credit Card to get any ebook even if it free!

IF you can read on the color nook  then I would suggest going with a Tablet!  IF not Kindle or Sony!  For eInk!

I decided to go with the Kindle for the e-ink. I got the 3G wifi without all the "offers" (I heard it is just annoying ads).  It's my birthday present from my hubby and kids lol. I am very excited now - I hope it makes it on time, the shipping takes longer than I thought and my birthday is on the 18th. Finally a reason to look forward to another birthday!

Thanks for the help!

Jeannie, I think you have made an excellent decision. I would def. get the ones with ads, I don't think they are annoying, the ad screen savers are much nicer looking than the dead author screen savers! Let us know what you think of the Kindle when you get it~!

Anyway I see you got the 3G w/o the ads, awesome. Sometimes I wish I had the 3G. I am eagerly awaiting to see what Amazon is going to come out with next, there are lots of rumors flying around. A smaller, lighter Kindle would be cool.

Mine have the advertisements, but I think they're more boring than annoying. So far they're not anything I've been interested in buying. I like putting my own covers on them since there are some killer pics out there, so don't know if it'll get to the annoying stage in the future.

Nice machine so far, but I'm still putting it through some tests.

I get to change my screensavers on my Nook.  Now if only B&N would magically become Amazon customer service.
