When does PBS start sending those emails?  I mailed a small book first class, to a brand new member, 15 days ago, I assume that that have received it and I am dyeing to PM them.

I get those emails long before books get close to going lost, really irritating when I've been complaining about mail service from California for months!

I got four of them before I got my last two books - and it wasn't at the date yet.  The email actually said to ignore if the date had not been reached.  I guess maybe they are seeing a lot of people who just don't remember to post that they received the books?

I had a book go lost as of Sunday and I think I started getting the emails at least a week before the date.  It was a WL and I'm still hoping it shows up.

I think the first one goes out at about 2 weeks.

Since the site sends the emails, there really is not reason to PM at this point unless you have a DC showing it delivered. If it gets to the lost date, then you can confirm with the sender, otherwise you are just repeating what the system does already.

Yes, I don't want to be a pest, I know the system will ask soon enough, it just bothers me to have it "out there", but it could be lost.

I have a book coming to me that it states was mailed 8/11 and I have yet to receive it. I got an email about a week+ ago asking if I had received it yet.

Thanks Rachael, that helps, mine was mailed 8/12, and it went 1st class.  The person signed up with PBS in August and now they have nothing on their bookshelf or WL, so I am worried that they have already quit.

If PBS DC was used, an email goes out 3 days after the "delivered" scan. If not, then I believe the first email is 2 weeks.

Also take into account where it was mailed to. Hurricane Irene has had an effect on the east coast. If this member has lost power they may not be able to get to a computer and mark it received.

I had a book go lost just recently and I believe I got 3 of those e-mails before it was declared lost...one at about 2 weeks after the mail-by date, one a week before, and the last one just a day or two before it was declared lost. This book was coming from about 30 miles from me, so I rather figured when it hadn't arrived by the first e-mail it probably wasn't coming, and so far (about a month after the lost date) it hasn't. I ordered another copy that got here from across the country in about 4 days.

If the member hasn't logged into her account for a while and the server thinks the account is abandoned, the server will mark the book "received" instead of lost after 26 days  (or 35 days for books traveling outside the contiguous United States).  And if you send a PM about the time the book goes lost, and you don't hear back in five days, you can contact the Admin Team.  If they feel the member is not responding, they can mark it received, too.
