This is the first time this has happened to me.  I requested a book that was part of a 4 for 1 deal.  The poster just emailed me that she rec'd a "loose in the mail" envelope from the post office with part of the envelope.

She's going to fill out the paperwork to see if they can find the books.  My question is:  If I click "not rec'd" will the requested book be requested again automatically.  I don't want it to, because I need to stretch my credits as I don't have very many and try to get deals on the books I want.  Like I said, this was part of a deal.  It is not a book I want to spend a credit on (reserved for wishlist books)

Oh, I meant to post this one USPS lost the book I sent! (they sent me a notice/the empty wrapping) showing you would get the next book.

That Help screen said:

  • Contact us so that we can cancel the transaction
    • if there are no more copies in the system, the requestor will get credit back and the book will go onto his or her Wish List.
    • If there are other available copies, when we cancel, the requestor's request will be passed along to a new sender, and he or she will see the new request with that new sender on his or her My Account page.
    • After we cancel, you can contact the requestor using the button on the canceled request in your Transaction Archive, linked from the top of your My Account  main page.

So if the PBS-Team cancels, then your request would go FIFO. I don't know if the same thing would happen if you click "Not Received".

I think (although I'm not sure) that if you just allow the book to go lost, it will not be re-requested in FIFO.

When I had a book go lost on its way to me, I had to re-order it from the system myself.

Let it go lost. Then it'll give you back your credit and not reorder the book. Otherwise you will have to keep a close eye on it and cancel the request as soon as it's made.  You can cancel up until the label is printed. When a book goes lost it goes on your reminder list because PBS suggests you wait 2 wks until reordering the book.

I agree with waiting until it goes lost because that allows the PBS system to work so you don't have to.

I have a question.  I ordered a book, the person said it was accepted and mailed, the time ran out, I got my credit back.  Then, all of a sudden oneday the book shows up again as a book I ordered, same person, said it was accepted and mailed, and the time runs out again Sunday.  I've sent an email asking what is going on and no reply.  That just doesn't make sense to me.  They won't message me back.  Any clues why someone would do this twice, same person?  And it appears that it was never mailed cause it has never shown up.  I really want the book.  :o(   It is a neighboring state and most times books from this state get to me in a few days.

So, in waiting for it to go lost, I should not hit the not received button??

Let pbs do it automatically...

I assume this was a WL'd book, Deonne?  Sounds as if they never mailed it the first time or it was returned to them.  What did PBS do about it the first time?   I'd hate to suggest that this person is doing this on purpose.  Is it being mailed with DC?

Adrienne - don't hit anything until after it goes lost.  Later - weeks from now if it hasn't come in you can go click on your Transaction File that it never came.

Ruth

ETA - typos - stupid new keyboard!

There is way to mark a book Not Received. If you click the Was The Book Received button you will see a Not Received button, but it just puts the book back on your En Route Tab. The only thing you CAN do is wait for the system to mark it lost.

Adrienne, just let system declare it LOST for you,  that's the best way to handle it:)

Deonne it sounds like there were no other copies of that book when it wasn't marked mailed on time.  So it put the book on your WL. THen of course the same person reposted the book.  If it's posted again a 3rd time by the same person-contact PBS.  Most likely the 2nd time out  in such a short time will cause a warning email to come from PBS and maybe even their account being put on hold.

Thanks.  I really want the book but have given up on this one.  I just don't know why they would accept, print and say mailed twice.  It really doesn't make any sense.  The first one  is still in my transaction archive as unresolved.  Sorry Adrienne that I used this thread, I should have opened another one.

I found out in another thread http://www.paperbackswap.com/forum/topic.php?t=165426

that it depends upon whether or not it’s a Wish Listed (WL) book that goes lost.  WL books will be put back on your WL and non WL books will be put on your Reminder List.

I was wondering why members replies saying it would not go back to your WL was in conflict with this help document  USPS lost the book I sent! (they sent me a notice/the empty wrapping)

Now it makes sense.
