This is a WL book that I was the first wisher on for several months ( I think there are only about 7 other wishers). I got it today and on the cover it has that Advanced Uncorrected Proofs on it. I"m just not sure how to mark this, and how I should handle it. I'd like to read the book, and it was to be a keeper book but I don't know if this is the same as the final version or not.   I'd love to have your suggestions..

The book you received is considered an Advanced Reader Copy, or ARC, and they are not supposed to be posted to the system; there is a section in the Book Bazaar for exchanging ARCs, but they aren't to be posted as if they are regular published versions.  For this situation, the Help Center states:

  • If you receive an ARC, you should mark it received as a Wrong Book and send a message to the sender asking for your credit back.
    • You should NOT repost an ARC (or any problem book) if you receive one.
  • The receiver of an ARC is not required to return the item; she or he may agree to do so if the sender sends postage for the item's return.  This is the case with all problem books: the requestor receiving them is not obligated to spend postage to return them.

You should treat this as any other problem swap.  You should find yourself automatically placed at/near the front of the WL line for that title, since you didn't actually get what you had wished for.  Hopefully, with this information, things will work themselves out as they should :)

edited to add: love the NASCAR avatar, even if it is Jimmie Johnson :P

Unpostable Carol, mark it RWAP.  ARCs are not to be posted FIFO.

Yes, PLEASE mark it RWAP...most of the RWAP's I've had (and there have been very few) have not been for book condition, but because the person sent an ARC or Uncorrected Proof. These are becoming easier to get in recent years so more people are just posting them--because the ISBN matches the hardcover, they think it's okay, even though when you post a book it explicitly says "...and is not an ARC...."  ::sigh::

Hope you get your credit back....the last one of these I had, I never heard from the person again, so it's unresolved.

I don't think ARC's(aka Advanced Uncorrected Proof, Advanced Reader's Copy) are allowed.  Personally, I like ARC's, but I don't expect to get one here, unless I go hunting for them.

You're right, it is nice when people resolve it civilly like that.  Most of my RWAP were not so nice...

I'd say a good portion of the ARCs that are posted are done unintentionally because members do not know how an ARC differs from a real copy.  So the more people we can teach, the better!

Great! It's always nice to hear when things end well.

Hopefully you get another copy for your keeper shelf, Carol!

I know I really hated to mark it that way but the final release has a color photo insert which was not in this one so I would want that for sure. I thought there were only about 7 others wishing but there are 33.. I did get put back in first place though. I'm sure one will pop up somewhere!
