I am new to PBS.  I posted 7 books which gave me one credit.  The reason I joined PBS is because I have several Dean Koontz books that my eyes can't seem to focus on (print too small).  I was wanting to get rid of them and get some in large print.

Anyway,  I made a request on one book and it got cancelled the next day.  Is it because I am new and noone is going to trust me?  Does anyone have any idea as to why this would happen?

Welcome Sheila

it has nothing to do with you being new.  perhaps they couldn't find the book, realized that it was unpostable, something happened to make it unpostable....the options are endless.  however when they cancelled you should either move on to the next person (if another copy is available) or it should be on your WL

HI and Welcome,

I recently cancelled a request because I am going on vacation and do not have the time to get to a Post office before I leave.  There are many reasons why people cancell and mostly they will have nothing against you personally.

Hope you get some great books.

Hi Sheila.  Just want to warn you to check and see if the order has automatically moved to the next person offering it, which it usually will do if copies are available.  Check your "books I've requested" screen.

If it put it on your WL-check for other versions. Dean Koontz books are usually easy to find on PBS unless it was just released.  Although I don't know how many would be issued in lrg print.

Sheila,  I wouldn't take it personally.  I just had to cancel a book I was to send because I couldn't find it.  I feel terrible about it!  I ended up tearing my house apart looking.  I pm'd the person apologizing for not finding it.  I always keep my posted books together so it's still driving me crazy as to where this book could be!  This could be what happened to your cancelled book.

Book cancelling occurs quite frequently on this website.

There's lots of reasons for a cancelled order--while it hasn't happened all that often to me, it does happen occasionally. I cancelled a request for an auto-requested wishlist book just this week...and I'm glad I caught it in time. I had just finished a book earlier in the same series and decided to stop reading the series, so I actually had come to remove the book from my wishlist only to discover it'd been posted a few hours before! Fortunately the member hadn't accepted it yet, so I cancelled it and I'm sure the several hundred wishers behind me in line were happy. LOL

I've also posted a book that I then had to cancel. It was a book I'd gotten at a FOL (Friends of the Library) sale and while I always thumb through them before posting them, I do it again just before I print the label to make sure the book is okay. I'd found a bunch of stains that somehow I didn't notice the first time around, which made it unpostable, so I cancelled the order. It wasn't a wishlisted book, just one someone had ordered through FIFO, and I did PM the person to let them know why I'd cancelled.

IMO, better to cancel the order than to send a book that doesn't meet PBS guidelines or is going to be problematic!

Twice had to cancel a WL book I posted and had already accepted the request.  Once the book got wet accidentally and the 2nd time I got brownie batter on one.  I cancelled a WL I was supposed to send once due to a death in the family. I had to go out of town and really mailing the book was not a priority.

I also do another booksite.  Yesterday for the 1st time ever I had the same book requested at the same time on both sites.  Normally I don't post books on 2 sites at once. But there were a lot of copies here so I did.  I also posted a WL book here and that person ordered 3 other books-all ones I had posted on the other site.  I cancelled the other site because I'd much rather earn credits here.  But some people do the opposite and cancel the PBS book.  They don't look to make sure it's WL.

Thanks for all of the replies and help but I am still a little confused.  Heres the thing:

When I go to "My Account">>>"Main">>>"Books I've Requested", it shows the book I requested and says Requested on 1/12, Status: waiting on member.  BUT, if I go on "My Account">>>"Transaction Archive", it show the book with an X to the left of it.  I then click on "Request Details" to the right and it says, Request Date: 1/11, Date Canceled: 1/12

I don't understand!  Am I waiting on the member to respond to the order or has it been canceled?  So confused.

It appears that the first member that was offering the book cancelled the transaction (that is the one showing in your TA). Now another member is offering you the book and that is the one showing in the "Books I've requested" tab.  If you click on the PM button for each one you should see two different names.

I also had to cancel a requested book and felt really bad about it.

When I posted the book it appeared to be in good condition and to meet the posting guidelines.  However when it was requested I went to dig the book out and accidentally dropped it.  It opened to a page that much to my surprise had underlining on it thus violating the posting guidlines.  Turns out there were only two pages in the entire book that had writing on them which is why I didn't notice them to begin with - coupled with the fact that it was my husband who had read the book to begin with, not me.

Stuff happens.  I don't think anyone tries to be mean but accidents are made or people simply run short on time and/or money.
