I have been a member for over 3 years and I've not had this happen, so I don't know what to do..  Someone requested one of my books and she has very strict requestor conditions (its almost like she wants a brand new book!!) Anyway, I noticed that the cover of the book she requested is not the same as the one I posted....same book...different cover.  I accepted the request and then PM'd her to tell her about the cover and to verify if she still wanted the book or not.  She said if the cover was of the movie , then she did not want it.  I PM'd back and told her that it is the movie cover, and if she doesn't want it, to please cancel the order.  I have asked her twice to please cancel.  I don't want to be the one to cancel the order,.....it will look like I don't have the book and I don't want that on my record. I don't want to just let it go like I didn't mail it either.   She has not answered my pm's asking her cancel.  She has no profile and no books posted.

What do I do?

Send a message through Feedback and ask them to cancel it for you.

If she didn't have something stating "covers must match the image on PBS" then whatever other strict conditions she had, this was a non-issue and I wouldn't have PM'd about it...and your case is exactly why. Then you're stuck between a rock and a hard place. Same thing with ex-library books. Some people think you should be "nice" and PM if it's an ex-library book...why?? PBS allows ex-lib. books so if it's not a requestor condition, all you're doing is setting yourself up for trouble--either they don't respond to your PM asking if it's okay, or they do respond and they don't want the book but won't cancel the order, so you end up cancelling and then pulling your book out of the FIFO line, etc.

I would do as Cathy said and just use the feedback button so you don't lose your place in line.

I agree with Cheryl. If this is not part of the condition then I would have just sent the book. Assuming it met all other conditions.

I haven't had to cancel in a while, but doesn't it ask why you need to cancel?  You can always say something along the lines of 'through PM's with the member, they do not want this copy of the book'  (Like I said it's been a while)

Yeah you could write that in the message box and then repost the book and decline when her RCs pop up again.  Get the book to someone who um wants to read it.

THis is exactly why I don't PM people. If the book meets PBS conditions and their conditions-I send it out.  The cover  picture does NOT have to match.  If someone wants a specific cover they need to have it in their conditions or buy the book new.

How many of the book are in the system?  If there's a lot in the system then ask her to cancel so you don't lose your place in the FIFO line.  If she won't respond then contact PBS and see if they can help.  If it's a WL book, you need to cancel and then when you repost the book, decline for her conditions so it gets passed on to the next person and she keeps her place in line.  If there were very few posted then I'd just cancel.  A cancellation here and there will not go against you. They only go against you if you ignore requests, let them time out or neglect to mark the mailed. But I'm sure most of us have had to cancel a transaction here and there.

Use the "Contact Us" link at the bottom of the page. Then use the feedback link to send in your request. I'd categorize your message as "Problem".

FYI, i cancelled an order from the other day, and it didn't ask me for a reason.

the person PM'ed me that they'd just moved that week, and hadn't updated their address at the time their autorequest for a WL book went through, so the address on the label would have been wrong.  i'd clicked the print button to look at the new postage rates, but hadn't actually printed it yet and made sure not to use DC when i was just poking.  i wasn't sure about using PBS-DC and then manually changing the address, or if media mail gets forwarded, so i cancelled the order, then re-posted directly to their WL so the new order had the right address.

maybe you only get asked a reason if you say 'i cannot mail' when it first asks you if you can send the book?

I sent a message as  a "problem" through Contact us, as Jane K suggested. I have only had to cancel 2 requests in 3 years and I don't think I was asked why I was cancelling. I think it just assumes it was because the book couldn't be found to swap. ( not the case here) and a big red checkmark goes next to the book in the transaction archive.

I had rather the big red checkmark be on her record and not mine !!!! (although I think I will get one too, but it will say cancelled by requestor and not cancelled by sender)

Thanks for everyone's help.  I think this is the first time I have posted here and I really appreciate the response.  You guys are great !
