Seems like a sender of a book I requested had a confusing day and shipped my book to a different address. Does this mean I am out a book & my spot in line for the next copy?? I suggested that she give the person who recieved the wrong book a credit to foward it to me...and then when i got it I would mark it recieved and she would get her original credit.............................and hopefully the other persons book will appear somewhere too.

Does anyone else have any other suggestions...first time I have had this situation though I assume it happens.  This is the message she sent me.....

Hi there- I mailed this book out, but I just rec'd a PM from someone (not you, obviously) who rec'd this book in lieu of the one she requested from me:  So you may end up receiving that book instead of the one you requested. When you do, please let me know & I can help figure out how to get it to the proper person & I'll be sure to make it up to you somehow. Thank you

No, you are not going to lose a book or a place in line or anything else, as long as you follow these two simple rules:

- DO NOT mark the book received until you have the correct book in your hand or an agreement from the sender to refund your credit

- DO NOT spend your own money to fix the other person's mistake

If you get the wrong book, contact the sender and let her know. Ask her for the address of the other member if you can't find it on the 2nd page of the PBS wrapper. Tell her that she can give you a credit or send you the postage and you'll be happy to mail the wrong book to the right requestor. Don't mail the book until you've got the credit or postage, then do it promptly and let her know as soon as it's in the mail. Also, make sure to give the sender your address and ask her to pass it along to the member who got your book so that it can be mailed to you.

If the person who got "your" book can't or won't mail the book to you, or if the sender chooses not to spend more money to fix the problem, then there are a few choices:

1) original sender can contact PBS and ask them to cancel the transaction for whichever book(s) won't be arriving at their destinations. When she does this you will get your credit back and your place back on the wish list. You cannot ask them to cancel a transaction where you are the requestor. Only the sender can do this.

2) you can mark the book received with a problem / wrong book, and then the sender can refund your credit. She can't refund your credit until you mark the book received, so if you choose to do this, make sure she's agreeing to do the refund before you mark the book received and make sure to mark it received with a problem so you go back on the wish list.

3) if it takes a long time to resolve this or the sender stops communicating and the book gets declared "lost in the mail", then you will also get your credit back and your place on the wish list.

Understand that the sender does not have to make sure you get the book you ordered. She just has to make sure that you get back to the original state you were in before you ordered the book from her. Some senders do not see a reason to throw more postage money into a transaction that's been a problem, and they'd rather just cancel it or return the credits.

I have been on both ends of this situation.  I've accidentially switch books/senders.  I friended each person a credit with the request that they send the book to the correct person.  I've also been the receiver of an incorrect book and forwarded it on to the correct person.  Don't worry to much about it.  It sounds like you're doing the right/nice thing to resolve the problem.

I've also been on both sides of this.  I mixed up labels once and twice recieved the wrong book.  When I did it I offered both of the parties either a credit or to give them the correct postage on paypal to forward the book.  I offered the paypal option, because sometimes for me that would be better if I've already hit the top of my monthly mailing budget.  All 3 situations were resolved painlessly, and I'm sure yours will work out as well.

Well now its been six days (this started on the 20th) since the original message from the sender and I haven't heard a peep.  Do I just mark the book lost in the mail when that time comes?

If you don't get your book, you won't do anything and the transaction goes lost (you don't mark it lost, that is a system action).

If the book goes lost, you should send another PM to the sender asking if the book is being rerouted because the book is going back on the Wish List and if she doesn't confirm its been mailed to you, you will need to accept the offer and she won't get the credit for it. The site does expect us to do a little due diligence before reordering a book that might be on its way to us.

If the book was a wish list book, I would let PBS know that the sender messed up and isn't responding to your PM regarding a solution.  If you wait for the book to go lost, you will have to wait the full month it takes before you will go back on the wish list for the book.  PBS can cancel the transaction which will put you back on the wish list right now instead of weeks from now.  But, before I did that I would send one more PM to the sender letting them know that if you don't hear from them by  X date (maybe two days from the PM), you will be contacting PBS asking them to cancel the transaction.

Still no reply or book from either the original sender or the one who "supposingly" got it by mistake...............The book is due to go missing in three days so I guess I will have to wait for another copy to come up for me.

:(

Ugh...this is giving me such a headache..............I let PBS know about this and as mentioned earlier...it is the sender who needs to cancel the request. So I nicely asked her to just so I wouldn't have to continue to wait for her/other person to figure out what they were going to do about the confusion.  She finally replied a few days later (today)  again just saying the other person would PM her when they sent it to me.

I am really beginning to wonder if this book was even mailed out at all. I guess I will just have to wait it out until it gets marked LOST on the 6th...and then start my quest all over again. Though I think hers was the only copy in the system.

double ugh!!

Tammie

Please make sure to stay in communication with this sender. If the book has been mailed to you (even late) and you know it, if you order another copy you will still be required to mark this one as received. The only time getting two gets you out of marking the first one received when you place two requests is if the sender does not talk to you before mailing late. Since this sender has been comunicating with you about the book being mailed you are responsible to give her the credit. Prior to placing another request you should check to see if the other member has mailed the book.
