I sent a book and the reciever says it was stained. I know 100% that the book was in like new condition when it was wrapped for shipping.  I will not send books out that I would not want to recieve myself.   I  have sent a ton of books and this is the first one that has said something was wrong. I don't feel as though I should refund her credit. Because I know the book was fine. It was a hardcover with dust jacket not a mark on it anywhere.

What do you all think I should do????

come on Connie I need your thoughts on this

I just pm'd her with that question, I do check under the dustcover and also check inside of book,  this is so upsetting. I just canceled a books because I found some dirt stains on the top edges. Why would I send a book that was stained uggggggggggghhhhhhhhhhh

Maybe you did not notice it.

I would ask her for a photo.  If she's not willing to send a picture I might be a little suspicious, but, honestly, I would just assume I had missed something.  It happens.

believe me I would have noticed I check all my books, my thinking is I won't send something that I myself would not be happy getting.  If I find anything at all even a stain I pm the person and let them know and ask if they still want the book to let me know if not they may cancel

Does the profile actually say 0 under books sent and received or is there a -? The dash mark just means that the information is private.

I would ask for a picture, and as others have stated, if it isn't an obvious in-your-face stain, I'd assume I missed it. I check all my books before I send them, but who knows what was on page 108 that I didn't see while reading by flashlight in the car and didn't catch when I flipped through the book.

just looked at her profile been a member since 2006   has sent 0 books and recieved  0 books - since she obviously received at least 1 book (from you) it must say - received and - sent which just means its information set to private.

Does pbs require a stain to be of any particular size? I recall someone on another site complaining of a stain on a well-kept book I sent. It turns out that she was angry over hardened sales sticker residue on the back cover about half the size of a thumb nail. I felt the gripe was uncalled for considering the rest of the book was perfect as it was purchased just a month prior at B&N. But after relentless e-mails, I caved and refunded her in exchange for peace and quiet.

Check out pbs' rules on stains. If it is minor, or not even classifiable as a stain, adamantly defend your position. Try not to do what i did,

The yellow acid burn and flecks of ageing are not considered stains.

I'd also ask if the wrapper was stained.  I do mark RWAP if USPS has damaged the book.  But I do not expect a credit for those books unless the wrapping was really awful.  (Scotch tape comes to mind.)

I just have to put my 2 cents in.  I've recieved books from Bertie before and they were in beautiful shape.  I really don't think she would send out a stained book.

I ask for pictures and this is what she sent, have no clue how to look at them

if anyone know how to look at these please let me know

this was a 2/1 deal so I don't think I will refund the credit she said the other books was in perfect condition

There are some brown stains on pages 149-150.

And a small water stain from pages 349-354. That is hard to see on the photos, though.

Bertie,

Since you can't see the pictures, let me help:

The stain on page 149 looks like a chocolate fingerprint smudge on the bottom corner of the page.  The stain on page 150 is about the size of a capital letter in the book (and something I would never have noticed until I actually read it).  The water stains look like they are maybe 1/2 inch each, and they are very light in the pictures.

The only thing that actually looks bad enough to RWAP the book for is the one on page 149.  The others are debatable in my mind.

ETA: Looks like you found a way to view it.  I was too late!  :(

"this was a 2/1 deal so I don't think I will refund the credit she said the other books was in perfect condition"

I'd only refund the credit if this was the book she ordered off your bookshelf.

I would not refund the credit if it was the freebie or bonus book.

That's definitely an unpostable book. I would say you need to refund her credit. Deals don't negate the requirement for books on our shelves to be postable IMO.

thank you all very much, I will refund her credit but make sure she never gets any other books from me. First problem I ever had and I know the stain was not there when it was mailed. I not only fan the pages ( I would have seen that ) I also flip through the pages .  Live and learn  lol

"I will refund her credit .....I know the stain was not there when it was mailed"

Why?

"but make sure she never gets any other books from me."

Impossible, unless you keep tabs in a notebook or something.

Bertie, there's like 50 of the same picture in your post...may want to edit it down to one?
