There are so many books on women in the Bible.  I would like a good study guide book to learn about religious women in biblical history.  Have you read a good one, can you recommend one?

Thank You!!

Hi Dawn,

My mother has written a whole set on women of the Bible.  They are very thorough books and she covers a lady in each chapter.  She categorizes them and they make great for Bible studies and for ladies classes at church; very informative.  Their website is

The titles are:

SP -Women of the Bible, volume 1 - Helpmeets & Homemakers

SP -Women of the Bible, volume 2 - Faithful & Fruitful

SP -Women of the Bible, volume 3 - Helpless & Hurting

SP -Women of the Bible, volume 4 - Powerful & Prestigious

SP -Women of the Bible, volume 5 - Carnal & Conniving

While I haven't read it myself, a lot of the women I've talked to really liked Bad Girls of the Bible.  I did read The Catholic Women's Devotional Bible, which I did enjoy (there are also Women's Devotional Bibles with other translations.

I read a lot of Christian mysticism (not Biblical times, but I still thought it might be of interest to you).  I love the works of Hildegard of Bingen.  What little I've read about Hadewijch of Brabant has been good.  Catherine of Sienna is supposed to be really good, too (her book is sitting on my shelf).

Jennifer - I put the Bad Girls book on my reminder list.  That looks good.

Bill - Thanks for the help.  I can not afford to buy them but I will see if my library has them.  They do look like what I had in mind.

Karen - I'm really looking forward to them.  Even the one about the greatest cat.  My very old chihuahuas both passed away and I just adopted a big, fat, nine year old cat from the humane society.  She's wonderful and I'm lucky to have her.  I always take the old ones and find they are overlooked treasures.

I have taught the Life Principals from the Women of the Bible and liked it. It was the first Bible study that I ever lead.

I used this to help me out:  Women of the Bible : God's Word for the Biblically-Inept (God's Word for the Biblically-Inept Series) :: Kathy Collard Miller

It helped out a good deal.  Easy to read and understand.

Liz Curtis Higgs' books are fantastic!  I went to one of her conferences a few years ago and in between falling on the floor laughing, learned so much.

Right now she is doing the Book of Ruth "The Girls Still Got It" and I'm learning so much!

She did Bad Girls of the Bible, Really Bad Girls of the Bible, Slightly Bad Girls of the Bible, etc.  If you get any of these books, it's really worth it to get the workbooks too. I'm loving this book on Ruth!

Thanks Cynthia and Debbie.

Ruth is a favorite of mine.  Whenever life gets tough I always read it.  It has become one of my comfort food type things to read.
