Romance is said to be the most popular genre and I really would like to try reading it. My only problem is there is so much of it out there and I am not sure what is good and what's not. Any suggestions?

Normally I read fantasy, dystopian, mystery, paranormal, and historical (I do want to read more about a duke). I also do not like weak-willed protagonists, the reason I don't like the Twilight saga or the Sookie Stackhouse series, but do like Vampire Academy.

You could ease your way in with Urban Fantasy, which often has a strong romantic element. I really loved C.E. Murphy's "Negotiator" series. Patricia Brigg's Mercy  and "Alpha and Omega" series are also very good.

Oh i agree. Starting with Urban Fantasy would be a great way to ease into the Romance genre. A couple of UF series that i love are the Night Huntress series by Jeaniene Frost and the Fever series by Karen Marie Moning.

Thanks, I've added two to my wishlist and am ordering some from my library website to try out. Any others?

Ooh Ooh...how about the Demonica series by Larissa Ione? Or my all time fave, Black Dagger Brotherhood by JR Ward. These two series are a bit sexier than the others listed here though, so im not sure if thats somethin that your lookin for or not.

I actually have Dark Lover from Black Dagger Brotherhood sitting on my shelf. I will probably start reading it tonight then. I will look into Demonica tomorrow.

My first thought was Black Dagger Brotherhood.

I also love: The Midnight Breeds by Lara Adrian and Psy-Changlings by Nalini Singh.

Also these aren't straight romance but I love LOVE the Sugar Maple series by Barbara Britton.  They're kind of a comedic paranormal/urban fantasy/romance combo.

Thanks Mary, I'll look those up. I finished Dark Lover, but it is going to be a while before I can get the second book. There is a waiting list here and at my library.

You might also want to look at Ilona Andrews - Magic Bites, Magic Slays, Magic Bleeds, etc  and I love the Gail Carriger series.  The stories were well written and very fun.

If you like ghost or psychic related stuff you should try Heather Graham.  She's always billed as romance.  But I find with a lot of her contemporaries, the romance is more secondary.
