I found four harlequin romances on someone's bookshelf and PMed to ask if she would consider a 2 credit for 4 book deal.  The reponse was that I was sent by the managment to "test" this person to see if they were following the rules.   I was acused of being a book swap narc!   I am so chagrined by the reponse.  If you could type giving someone the finger, that is what I got.

OMG - a free tinfoil hat - very funny!!! Pamela - that is the oddest thing I have ever heard. How sad that that person would be worried that someone would do that to her.

LOL! According to the PBS Help Library,

"Members cannot offer or ask MORE than "PBS Price" for a book, but they can offer more than 1 book for a credit"

If this were not allowed, the Book Bazaar Forum would be the equivalent of a state trooper speed trap.

Sound like you encountered a member who doesn't understand the program. TSTL. Sad. So sad. '-D

I feel sorry for her because not many of us want to "pay" full price for Harlequins. I always wait to get a deal on them.

Good grief! Be comforted with the thought that she is a nutjob and those Harlequins will never be requested. ;-)

My guess is this person is not a regular forum user and doesn't really know about deals.  Or maybe she's a die-hard "1 book = 1 credit even if I have to keep them forever because they never get ordered" person.  And the response was her way of dealing with what she considers "annoying deal requests". Some people get very offended when you ask them to give you a deal.  Personally I think receiving 2 credits for 4 little series books would be a good deal. I wouldn't order them for a deal less than 3 for 1 or 4 for 1.  But then I don't generally read those little ones.

geez, I'm sorry this happened to you!  Guess it makes me feel better the couple of times I've asked for a deal on someone's bookshelf and been ignored....at least they didn't "turn me in".  And yes, the copies that I asked for are still sitting on those people's shelves....I've checked.....not that I hold it against them or anything(ok, sarcastic grin here...)

Hey, Monica. I've got my own hammer. :)

I am willing to do deals on the 1000 or so category titles I have listed. I just don't advertise it. I figure you ladies know you can PM me and ask. As for the PBS users who aren't smart enough or "too busy" to frequent this forum, I'll take their creds. I've shipped a more than a few multi-book orders and rec'd 1 credit per book.:)

Colleen -- So I go to look at your shelf and you have 1254 books listed.....so I do a search for "romance only" which weeds out everything else.....and your shelf pops up 1154 books!  Now that's a romance lover!!!

I confess. I probably haven't read 75% of the books on my shelf. About 4 yrs ago, my sister gifted me with 3000+ silhouette titles + 200+ bodice rippers to sell, swap, or scuttle. I've whittled away at it, swapping the books I don't want for the books I do. So my keeper shelf is up to about 300 titles and my sister's is down to about 1000.

I'll also confess that if I started reading all those books, I'd probably read all of them. I've only read one book that I really, really should have DNF'd. I keep it because it is the worst category book ever and that cracks me up.

I do enjoy American history and legal thrillers, they just don't make to the PBS shelf. '-D

Ohh is this a new group of PBSer's?  PBS NARCs - a secret hit squad just trying to lure unsuspecting innocents into illegal trades.  Maybe we can get one of the romantic suspense writers to pick up this thread for a new book!!  The H/H will have to fight through to get to the safety of a nice forum.

LOL - paranoid doesn't seem to cover it

they give away harlequins free at our county library.  I usually just pass them up.  there is usually a whole bin of them. Free to take as much as you want.

So here is the conclusion to the story.  I explained that I was not trying to trick her and make her think Big Brother was watching.   She is a newbie and told me she was warned about scams!!  So I suggested that she check out the book bazaar and such and the next day she pmed me to say thank you.  She asked if she could ask me for help with the site, and of course, being the PBS addict that I am, I have been able to offer a few tricks for maximizing one's swapping potential.

On the personal side, I have received two unpostables in a three book, three credit request.  The sender "offered" me one credit as a refund.  How do I complain about this beyond the PMs?    I have the swaps marked unresolved.   I have not received any credit refunds.

You already marked them unresolved?  If you did all of your communicating with her via the pms attached to the transaction record, PBS can see all of that.  You could use the "contact us" link and send them a separate complaint, but I don't know that they'd do anything - if they'd even review the transaction - unless maybe this person had some prior RWAPs on their record.  I never discourage anyone from trying that, but they do say in the help docs that they can't mediate indivdual swaps.  That's not to say that they never do step in though, so I never say don't try.
