First in the series, for Tween girls. Because the book description was vague, I had to read this book for myself. Set in modern Los Angeles, this is a story of a 19 year old girl, Heaven Kogo, adopted into a rich and powerful Japanese traditional family. She is to be married off to a rival family as a business transaction. As with many other fantasy, larger than life hero stories, the heroine must go through a process of rebirth before fully realizing all of the heroic powers she possesses. Some black and white illustrations. Easy to read.
