I am trying to list a book that is a hardcover, large print book.  When I try to post it the information comes up as large print no problem but it says that it is a paperback book.

Does anyone know how I can fix this?  I double-checked the book several times and I do have the right ISBN number.  The book is called "Carrot Cake Murder" by Joanne Fluke.  The ISBN number is : 978-0-7394-9448-6

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi, checked Amazon for the large print hardcover ISBN. I've noticed that publishers don't always change the ISBN number on the copyright page even if the book is a different run/edition/type. Try these ISBNs ISBN-10: 14104854 or ISBN-13:  97814104855 and see if either brings up your book. Good luck.

Thanks Kathleen, you are most helpful.  My first thought was that this book was not in the PBS library yet.  I really didn't think to check Amazon.  I will remember this for next time.

Actually you can't use another ISBN (one that isn't in the book). What you will have to do is post the book as a book without an ISBN. If you post it using another ISBN, you are risking losing a credit.

DIDDO what babsscifi says....it is against the rules to post a book by an ISBN that is not currently printed from the publisher on that book.

And both ISBN's that you posted are a couple digits short Kathleen.

  • If your book does NOT match the information in the Book Listing Preview:

    • If it is a minor difference, such as a misspelled title or the wrong author first name, you can post the book and submit corrections afterward using the Edit Book Data link.
    • If the booktype is different (if your book is a paperback, and the Preview shows hardcover, for example):
      • You will need to post the book without an ISBN
    • If the book title says "(Large Print)" and your book is regular-size font:
      • You will need to post the book without an ISBN

To Post a Book Without an ISBN:

    • Click the link "Post a Book Without an ISBN" at the top of the Post Books page.

Some of the other bookswap sites allow you to look up ISBNs of similar books and post by those, PBS does not - you must match ISBN, Title, Author, and book type. You could post about your book in the Book Bazaar or tag the ISBN with something like "paperback LP avail under ISBN XXXXXX" to get it noticed.

    I stand sit corrected.

But now I have a question, I have had books where the ISBN on the back was covered up by store labels that I couldn't remove without damaging the book. When I tried using the ISBN on the copyright page the wrong edition of the book would come up. (Usually hardcover when my book was softcover.) I then would check Amazon for the edition I had and use that ISBN. Should I not have done that? And if not what should I do in the future? Thanks.

ETA: I was assuming that the ISBN on the back that I couldn't read matched what Amazon lists as the ISBN for that book.

" I was assuming that the ISBN on the back that I couldn't read matched what Amazon lists as the ISBN for that book. "

While that seems intuitive and reasonable, it's not a safe assumption, and is the reason PBS has the rules they do. Blame the publishers and take heart - it doesn't happen all that often. Just to emphasize, the only ISBN that is relevant to posting one's book is the one that's actually IN/ON that book. The title, author, ISBN and binding type ALL have to match what PBS (not Amazon or anyone else) lists or you have to post it using the "no-ISBN" process.

FWIW, the majority of the "RWAP" books I've received have been due to that rule being ignored - just a word to the wise! ;-)
