Is a book water damaged and unpostable if... it is musty and you leave it outside to air and you forget about it and it rains all night and the next morning you go out and pick it up and water drips from the pages?  sigh...  :-)

It depends on the book.  I might want it anyway.

That's a gray area.

Is it still readable?

Yes, it is completely gone. Almost as if it was washed away.

Well then, if there is no musty smell, you could try to pass it along and use the age old quote:  "It wasn't like that when I sent it"  LOL

I dropped an entire cup of tea on a highly wishlisted book.  I feel your pain.

Follow these easy steps to restore postablity:

dry book by an open fire (bonfire or woodstove are best)

use magic markers to restore color where needed , reglue spine with silicone caulk

overwrite the lettering with an ultra fine point black sharpie

bleach out water mark lines with lemon juice

redry in the open air with some sweet grass sprinkled gently around book

place in a vise or bookpress for 30-60 days                          POST IT, ACCEPT ALL RC'S

Or the other standard reply Courtney, "I received it that way" (with the subtext, 'therefore it must be postable').

Missed one Lori:  Enclose a dryer sheet when mailing to cancel any mold odor.

Bummer Thomas, I've done that with clean laundry but not a book yet blush

Don't forget to spray liberally with Febreze.

The book is now completely dried out but the pages have more curls than Shirley Temple when she was a child star. Currently, the book is resting under seven of the heaviest books I have at home, a three-volume set of the Encyclopedia of Entomology, The Study of Insects, Women in Congress 1907-2006, and others.

Hopefully, the pages will eventually flatten out.

Well, it's a free book, right, so the receiver has no right to complain.  wink

Actually. it is a book I requested - U-Boat Commander  - and that I'll probably keep after I read it.
