I have the book Moon Shell Beach hard cover on my wish list. I was just looking at it and it is outlined in pink and says on hold.  I was offered the same title in paperback from my wish list would that have anything to do with it????

That is exactly why Bertie. When they made the changes to the Wish List, one of the features is to automatically put other versions on hold when an offer is accepted to lessen the occurance of people getting more than one offer of the same book at once. If you don't want it on hold, just remove that.

I didn't think that feature would kick in if one book was paperback and one was hardcover. Now I know thanks Melanie.

That's weird because I was granted my wish for Her Fearful Symmetry which has two different versions in the system. When I accepted the request the other version on my WL remained there (not on hold) until I deleted it once I received the book. So why didn't it do that for my wish list?

The books have to be linked via the PBS database.  Not all of them are.

They do have to show as being the same in the Wish List expander (which is different and better than what shows them at the bottom of the detail screens), but  it is a pretty recent change too, how long ago was that Aimee? The expander went into effect on 11/3 and the Hold feature came about from that upgrade.

I was offered the book on Dec. 30th and received it yesterday, the 9th. So well after November. I don't remember if I added the two versions via the wish list expander or not though. Probably not since I was already offered the book (WL of 800). I must have added both beforehand and that's what happened.

What threw me for a loop is that

1) When I received the matching book for one book on hold it didn't ask if I wanted to remove the other from my WL anymore

and

2) Books on hold are not showing up when I do a search on my WL.  So I had checked because I thought there was more than one copy, didn't find it, and had a jammed up spot on my WL.

I did submit a note to TPTB on the second.  That plus two books being linked that shouldn't be (same series, different books) plus the info page of a book not showing the book on your WL if it's on hold = very confused me for a while as I wasn't sure why it wasn't on my WL and it wouldn't go on b/c it told me it was but the info page didn't agree & I couldn't find it on a search of my WL!

Ok, this explains a lot lately, and now I'm wondering if I need to write a complaint to PBS to remove this feature or something. I'm a serious graphic novel collector, and I've found now that if I get offered a numbered volume to a series I'm collecting ALL other books from that series are put on hold and I'm loosing my place in the queue. It's driving me nuts. Volume 7 of Sandman by Neil Gaiman is NOT the same volume as Sandman volume 6, 8, or 9!

Aila: you are not losing your place in line. No one is passing you unless you are #1 and it happens to be posted. You would still move up the line with it on hold. They won't remove the feature but maybe you can ask them to figure out to differentiate between different volumes. Until then you'll have to come on everytime one if posted to you to unhold them.

The "do you want to delete other versions" option has never really worked right. I think I've only been asked that maybe twice in my whole time at PBS. I usually have to go in and manually delete all the other versions.

Aila definitely send in Feedback about that because it should not be affect other books in the series, only identical stories that are just in different formats. They won't remove the feature, but hopefully they can fix it. In the meantime, make sure to scroll through your Wish Listafter you get an offer to make sure. Its made easier by resorting by Hold so those all go to the top of the list then you can just click all the ones you don't want on Hold and UnHOld them.

As Mary said, the WL Hold is not causing you to lose your place in line, you keep your place in line and continue to work your way up while on Hold on the Wish List (this is different that the Bookshelf Hold). The only way you would lose your place is if you removed it from your Wish List and re-added it.
