Bertie - as you sent it with PBS DC, you'll still get to keep your credit regardless.  If you sent it Media Mail, I don't believe it will be returned to you unless you pay for the return postage.  Pat

Pat,

I know I will get my credit, I was just wondering if it would get marked lost in mail.  And I don't care if I get the book back or not.

If it isn't marked received by the requestor, then yes it will go lost in the mail.

And it will be returned to you with the cost of regular shipping. Hope it wasn't a big book.

I sent a book Media Mail once which went unclaimed by the recipient. The post office returned it to me, with no postage due. It was declared "lost" by PBS when it timed out without being marked received. I re-posted it and sent it successfully to somebody else. I ended up with 2 credits (although I was also out the cost to send it twice, so it all evened out).

I think they'll give her more than one pick-up notice, although I could be wrong.  And there's a help doc with good info called

A book I sent was returned to me!

I wonder if the recipient is on vacation and his or her mail is on hold at the post office.

Her shelf is not on vacation hold, so it's hard to say

You dont have to accept it if they return it to you with postage due on it.

Technically, the cost of Media Mail does not include return postage.  Therefore, they should be returned postage due.  Obviously, this does not always happen.

If the book is returned Bertie, and you don't want it...you can refuse it (and the additional postage).

The requester should receive two 'pick up' notices from her post office before an item is returned.
