The woman who wrote this article has a great blog on historical fiction called Reading the Past.

ALA' New Genre Awards

The Religion by Tim Willocks won the HF category. I haven't read this yet. Has anyone here read it?

Went over to AZN and discovered that the hardcover is discounted 75%.

I had to laugh when I saw that three of the books were Hawaii, Far Pavilions, and Shogun. I was wondering just last week if everyone has read these, lol. I have copies of all but Shogun on the way and I'm going to see if these are as great as everyone says. If anyone comes across a hardcover or trade paperback of Shogun, let me know! I know that there are tons available in massmarket paperback, but I hate reading long, fat mass markets. They're so hard to hold open and read.

Genie, I have a copy of The Religion, but I haven't read it. I have read the first few pages though and I think it will be a good one.

I have copies of all but Shogun on the way...

Do you like audiobooks? Audible.com is having a sale, and I saw Shogun for a real cheap price. Sorry, I can't remember exactly what it was. I decided to buy Nefertiti by Michelle Moran instead.

I'm bumping The Religion up on my reading list. It looks real good.

Hi everyone - thanks for linking to my article, and blog!

The Religion is excellent - one of my best reads for 2007, actually - though it is very gory and may not appeal to everyone.  Generally I dislike gory war stories, but made an exception for this one, and I'm glad I did.  I've seen copies at the local B&N for $5.99 in their bargain section.

Wow...how cool is it that I randomly linked an article that was written by a PBS member!

Really great article, Sarah. Thanks for the recommendations.

Thanks, Sarah! It just so happened that The Religion was marked down 75 percent at AZN on the day I read your article. :)

Thanks, all!  (sorry I'm a little late getting back to the forums)

I'll be curious to think what you all think of The Religion if you end up reading it.  Michelle Moran's Nefertiti is also very good.
