...I find myself in a situation where five of my oldest requests are running late. On two of them, I've already started getting emails from "The Librarian" asking me if I've received the books. There are still ten days until "system action" but I've never had books take this long to get to me...ever, and from anywhere.

Has anyone else found their requests taking longer than usual right now? I really don't want any of them to go lost!

I've got a book I mailed out on the 6th that still hasn't reached its destination. In the past, they've been there in 3-5 days. If it weren't for the DC from the PayPal postage, I'd wonder if I'd even remembered to mail it.

If it's a book coming to me and it's taking forever I find it was not mailed when said mailed. EVery single time excet for once it has had postage dated any where from a week to two weeks later than marked. The exception was a book dmaged by the USPS. I have had books I've mailed take forever, once the person was out of town. I stopped mailing my books media mail unless it's a hardback, was taking way too long to get to the new owners.

I haven't found things to be slower than usual for me right now, Michelle, but I HAVE found that I go through phases.  Most of my books get to their destinations quickly and then suddenly I have a spurt where they take longer and even though there's still a week left before they go "lost" I start panicking.  So far (knock wood), they've all made it on time.  So I would say to put those worries on the shelf for another week and get back to reading a good book!!  ;->

ETA:  I reread your post and I see that you're actually the recipient of the slow books.  I've had the same experiences with "spurts" as the recipient.  Hang in there!

Most of my swaps have been taking less than a week. But I received a book today that was mailed on July 30th. I was starting to wonder if or when it had been mailed, and it turns out that the reported date was indeed correct.... now if she had only sent me the correct book... so one way or another, I'm still waiting.

And I have a second book supposedly on its way. The sender PM'd me that she'd send it August 4th via priority mail (I didn't ask for priority). But she marked it sent on the 2nd.  I've heard from the librarian about this one, too.

We shall see.... :-0

But almost all of my transactions have been great, so I can't complain too much.

Pam

some of mine get to the new owners very fast (as little as 3 days from Texas to NY one time) and I've got one that I mailed on the 9th to NC that hasn't been marked received yet.  so you just never know!

I have two that just took a week to go from Salt Lake to Denver.  Hmmm... I can drive that in about 8 hours.

My postman once warned me that this time of year is busier than Christmas for media mail because of all the lat minute text book orders.  That may be your problem.

I have had lots and lots of books with the postmarks on them to prove when they were mailed arrive nearly the full month from when the PO recieved them. Media Mail goes in spurts and many, many times it is very, very slow. That's why the system has a full month time allowance. Not because it's occasional, but because it is common for it to take nearly a month.

I've had several lately that should have already been here but aren't and a few that barely made it by the cutoff date. But i also get some that get here in 3-4 days.

If your books do eventually arrive, check the postmark date if you can see it. I had a string of books recently that I received very late (one has yet to arrive, mailed July 27th) and it was because the sender sent it after the date they marked it shipped. One book was marked shipped by the sender on July 16th, but it was postmarked August 4th, a day after I pm'd them about it. I hope it is because of textbook season but it could be senders are mailing long after they mark the book as shipped. Good luck on your requests!

I ordered my first 3 books on the same day and the first two arrived together REALLY quickly, but the third took over a week longer.  I was beginning to get nervous about it being lost, but sure enough, it eventually showed up.   Media mail takes the back seat to all other mail so if it happens to be travelling through a busy/overloaded transit point, I could see it getting delayed a few times.

Believe it or not, this can happen with first class mail, too.  Last fall I sent a book first class that arrived at its destination the day before it was due to go lost.  Believe me, I was SURE that one had been eaten by a machine somewhere along the line.

I'm still waiting on all those books I initially wrote about. I am getting books that were mailed a week ago and two days ago, but those books I wrote about in the OP are still not here. They're not coming from the same state...not even the same region. This is frustrating. It's frustrating to keep getting these "reminder" emails, too.

My media mail has been really fast lately.  I don't think I've had anything take over a week in quite awhile.  I just had one arrive today that I have gotten mulitple reminder emails from the librarian about, and it turns out it was just mailed 4 days ago, instead of weeks ago like they said.

I've noticed that the past two weeks or so, media mail has been pretty slow for me.

I've also just discovered that all my media mail apparently gets routed to a facility in Springfield, MA, which is north of here (CT).  Unfortunately, that is the totally opposite direction for books being sent to most places in this country...so that seems to be tacking on a few extra days to the shipping.  Two books I just recently spent took about 4 days to go 40 miles from here the Springfield...and now they will have to come all the way back this way to get to the west coast.

I'm waiting on a book mailed July 25th, with delivery confirmation, so I know it was indeed mailed.  It is coming from Georgia to California, so maybe the snail mail is extra slow.  I'm sure it will turn up eventually.

MIne consistently take 2-3 weeks to arrive, and many take the full month, or maybe 2-3 days more, even tho the postmark shows it was mailed at the proper time.

I'm stil waiting on one that is now about 6 days from the "lost" date. Mine is coming from Texas so I am wondering if maybe the horrible weather there.. flooding and now the remnants of Tropical Storm Erin could be affecting the mail.

I didn't know about the textbook issue so maybe that is part of it too.

I'm also wondering if I should send a PM to the sender just so she knows what is going on. I don't want to sound accusatory but she does have a right to know why I haven't marked the book recieved yet. Any thoughts?
