is it normal for a book coming from Hawaii to not get checked into a post office after 14 days? Some one marked a book mailed  on 2/10 but reprinted the label on 2/13 and it still has not been scanned. I sent a PM to the member and the response was "it will be fine". I have received books from Hawaii and Alaska before but didn't have this issue.

Books going over water do have a grey zone where there are no scans. If there wasn't a scan before getting put in shipping carton, then you will not see any scans until it arrives at the hub on the mainland.

My mom used to send me things occasionally when my parents lived on Oahu, and sometimes things would zip right over to the mainland, and at other times would take 3 weeks or longer. Hopefully you get your book soon, but give it time.

I just checked the USPS tracking and it doesn't show anything either. Thanks for your comments, I will try to be more patient.

Hello, I ordered a few books from a member and she has the wrapper printed 2/13. I PM'ed her thanking her for her Book Bazzar Offer and she wanted me to know the following:

They are coming from Hawaii so will take at least 42 days (4-6weeks) to reach you.

I haven't received my package either.  It must be hard to live so far away, she probably has to wait just as long to receive her books from us.

So patience is needed with long distance members. wink

A book sent from Alaska to Nebraska (hey, that sorta rhymes wink) was mailed on Feb. 10 and arrived Feb. 25.  I was amazed how efficiently it traveled!

Also, mail from Hawaii might've gotten stuck offshore for a bit because of the labor dispute at the West Coast ports that happened recently.

I heard that some merchandise is stuck offshore and that's why there is little on the shelves at some big box retailers. Kat you might be right about the mail too.

I have often had books mailed to me with tracking that have no scans at all until they hit my post office and are out for delivery, so this is not uncommon. And it is something the sender can not control.

I also had not considered the port/labor dispute...could be a consideration.

That said, mail to/from Hawaii & Alaska can travel quickly or take 3 to 5 weeks.  I haven't done many, but of those at least half arrived either just before or just after the lost date.  The rest traveled faster.

Running out of patience. Still no scan on PBS or USPS. The book times out on 3/18.

Jane, my books must be on the same boat as yours, mine didn't arrive either. Must be frustrating for the sender, also. Having to wait for their book orders to arrive at their destination from others. * I just marked the books as received cause I know they are on the way and delayed with no fault of the sender. And will PM her when I received them. *I just don't want to discourage the offshore PBS members, we've lost so many already.

You are more trusting than I am. I have been burned to many times and also can't afford to be giving credits away. I am going to let the book follow PBS system but will definitely mark it received if it comes after the dead line. Maybe our books ended up on that slow boat to China.

USPS can be fickle when it comes to scans. I mailed 3 book packages out on 3/16. I mailed them from work, and stood there and handed them to the mailman, so I know that they were all taken at the same exact time. Two have been scanned multiple times. The third hasn't been scanned at all. I feel bad for the receiver of that third one--they are probably wondering if I really did mail the book.

I will often reprint a label with postage if I see that it is going over water or to an APO. Or switch it to first class if it is a light weight book.

That said, what is really slow is Guam. Oh my.

The books timed out before the pbs deadline so I am still patiently waiting.

Jane, I'll let you know when I receive mine and maybe yours will be not to far behind. I'm figuring maybe the end of the month.

Book arrived today. Was marked mailed on 2/10 but was post marked 2/14. I did fill out questionnaire letting PBS that it was mailed late.

Jane, My books arrived the same day as yours. Guess you could say "our ship came in" since labor dispute. I love that you can PM a member if you have questions or concerns with an order. After pm'ing her along the way she has been true to her words, "Will send these out Saturday, USPS Media. They are coming from Hawaii so will take at least 42 days (4-6weeks) to reach you." She was getting my order together and mailed both orders on the same day. Sorry my order delayed your books being sent before the 14th. Anyhow, I couldn't pass up on her great offer and it's not like I have no books to read here. Happy Reading

I'm glad the books arrived! Better late than never!
