Hi all,

Another newbie question from me.  I sent a book to a member using paypal delivery confirmation.  The book is shown as received November 23.  The person who received the book has not marked it as received, therefore I have not gotten credit.  I sent her a PM about this, and no reply.  Under books I have mailed, it says not to contact the club before 12/12.  If this person never marks the book as received, am I out the credit?

Thanks,

Pat

HI Pat,

Give the member a little time to get the PM, look into it, and then get back to you. Since its the crazy holiday season, they may be out of town or too busy to find out if someone else in the house has brought the book in without telling them. If it gets closer to the lost date and they have not gotten back to you, PM them again.

When you PM someone, its best to do it asking if the book is there and not stating the USPS has it delivered and they should mark it received. A delivery scan means a delivery, not necessarily a correct delivery.

The club requires communication so if the member never responds, send in Feedback through the Contact Us link below and let them know that a member is not responding within the one week time frame. If the book goes lost you will lose the credit since you used a DC other than PBS-DC, that is the only way to guarantee the credit.

If the requestor has abandoned his account, then your book will automatically be marked received. If the book has not been marked received by 12/12, then you should use the Contact Us link at the bottom of the page to contact the PBS Team and ask about this.

They are not going to just give you a credit when you contact them, because although your delivery confirmation proves that the book was delivered somewhere, it does not prove it was delivered to the address on the package; and you didn't purchase the guaranteed credit service which you would have gotten if you'd purchased DC through the site. However, they can contact the other member and tell him that ignoring PMs is not o.k. and he needs to answer your inquiries to let you know the book is indeed lost or mark the book received if he did get it.

If they go lost then yes you are out the credit.  If the account looks inactive then PBS will mark the books received instead of lost.

The DC showing delivered does not mean they were actually delivered yet or to the right address.  My local post office scans them as delivered at the post office and they can take a couple of days after that to actually show up at my house.  If it's misdelivered it'll show up scanned as delivered but the person who was supposed to get the book didn't get it. Also last week was a Holiday and many people travelled. Have you checked to see if the account is on vacation?

I would give them a little more time and then PM them and ask if they received the book. Just be polite and say you were concerned because it shows as being delivered but it hasn't been marked as received.  I would not start PMing them every day though.  That's very irritating when you haven't received the book.  PBS will also send reminders to them.

Pat, you can go to their bookshelf. It will say if the account is on vacation hold.

Unfortunately, a minority of members just don't see marking a book received as being "high priority."  Thankfully they are the minority.

Well, guess what - my book was just marked received!  Patience Pat, patience.....  I still don't see how to find a persons bookshelf to see if its on vacation.  Under the tab books I've mailed, the only details that are visible to me is the requestors real name and address.  How do I get to her bookshelf from there?

Thanks,

Pat

If you hit the PM button for the request it'll take you to a PM screen. Then if they've set up a profile you can click on the blue nickname and that'll bring you to their profile.  Click the bookshelf and if it's on vacation it'll say it's on vacation.

Or you can look up the nickname in the member directory.

These only work if they have set up a profile.  But a couple of times when I've noticed a delay in a book being marked received I've done this and the account was on vacation.
