I have 2 books that I need to know if they are postable. They are wishlisted of course.

1. Three Complete Novels in One (2 WL): Sue Grafton D is for Deadbeat, E is for Evidence and F is for Fugitive: Hard cover no dust jacket, Binding is starting to seperate on the inside front cover about an inch.

2. Deer Hunting with Jesus (28 WL): Jo Bageant: Paperback, Highlighted with a pencil. Also a small section of the back cover is ripped.

As far as the second book. If the cover is ripped less than 1 inch, it would be postable under the "writing rules" which say that you must PM the requestor before you mail the book, let them know about the writing, and wait for a response from them before the book is mailed.

Or, if you can erase the pencil, then the book would be postable, provided it's not ripped more than 1 inch.

As far as the first book, dust jackets are not required (unless the requestor has a RC for the dust jacket). The rip may or may not make it unpostable. If all the pages are secure, then it sounds like the cover is becoming separated from the inside, as long as it's less than an inch, it's probably OK. (seems to me like it is a rip in the cover).

However, your best bet, if you want to make sure that the people requesting the books are happy with them, is to offer them in the Book Bazaar (you can still offer them for a credit) and describe the damage to them in your post, then someone can request it knowing what it looks like. (You would post it directly to their Wish List, instead of posting it generally to FIFO).

If I think it's postable but I want to make sure I either post pictures here and get other's opinions or I send them to the requestor to make sure they approve. It can be hard to describe damage with words.

1. Doubt it is postable. Separating bindings do not fall under the 1" rip exception for covers. If the cover is separating from the book it should not be posted, offer it in the book bazaar.  You are likely to get a RWAP on a binding separation and mailing is hard on books, you have no idea how much more it will separate in the mail.

2. Look in the Help Center for the Textbook exception and follow that in regards to the pencil marks. Do not mail the book until you have a receiver that has accepted it. Cover rips have to less than 1" to be postable.

Please do not post unpostable books and then ask the requester if it is ok. This ties up their request with an unpostable book while postable books get offered to others in line behind them. If the books are unpostable, they can be offered in the Book Bazaar for credit as long as the damage is described so that the requesters know up front what they are getting.

From the Help Center:

  • Must be intact, with no separation on the inside or outside of the book
  • If the book tends to open at a particular page, this is OKAY
  • Small amount of fraying or denting at top or bottom is OKAY
