Hi,

Have a situation I can't figure out - I had a wishlisted book come up for me today, which I accepted.  Then, I clicked on order more from this member, and it said the member has no books on their bookshelf.  The only way I can think of this happening is they are brand new, and only posted one book so far, which is pretty amazing if thats the case.  Or, order more from this member isn't working for their bookshelf.

I've been a member for years and I rarely post anything but books that are Wishlisted.   It's not unusual.

Same here.  The only reason I have the two books on my shelf right now is because they were cancelled by the requestor.

I have 4 right now because they're #1 on the FIFO list.

Wow - who would have thought?  I guess after a while you get credits built up, so there is not much need to post things for more credits.  Thanks for the explanation - I've only been a member since November.

Or if you're like me, you don't like the clutter of books everywhere. :)

Some people never send any books out and buy credits from other members.  They like to keep everything they read or just don't want to deal with posting and wrapping books.

I go months sometimes with out posting anything that stays on my shelf or adding books to my WL.  So someone could look at my bookshelf or WL and think I was inactive-if they didn't look at my forum activity.  It's just because I've been posting WL books and haven't added anything to my WL for quite a while.

While I have a decent sized bookshelf (usually varying between 70-100 books) most of the books I send never get to my bookshelf as they are wishlisted. I could remove all the books on my shelf currently and probably would still be sending out 2-3 books a week, depending on how fast I'm reading.

There have been a few posts like yours, folks who were 'supsicious' of another member because they didn't have any books listed, but there's no reason people can't trade here without having a bookshelf. As long as they initially listed the 10 books to activate the account, no problem, they can be just posting WL'd books or they can buy credits to get the books they want.

It could also be like me, I didn't know I had my bookshelf blocked so no one could see it.  I fixed that but maybe they don't realize it.

I have some books on my bookshelf, I think around 12, but I won't be posting that many but spend more time getting books, mostly by buying credits.  I see this as a way to check out books I am interested in before I spend 6 to 15 dollars on a book I won't want.

If I like it, then I can buy the book.  If it is a series, then I can check out the first two of the series and decide if I want to buy them all.

Also, I tend to take what ever isn't moving with me to the UBS for trade in. So I might send out a WL book and empty my bookshelf here for a trip out. I hardly ever bring anything back, and it I do it's easier just to delete them all and re-enter any leftovers that are postable when I get back.

So I could have a couple hundred listed one day, and nothing the next except WL books I've picked up if I couldn't find anything I wanted at the UBS to keep. So my bookshelf would look empty even if I'm sending out dozens of WL books at the same time.

At SADVD, I have no DVDs on my shelf.  I posted 14 or 15 DVDs when I joined, all Baby Einstein.  They were all snapped up within 2 weeks and I don't have any more DVDs to post right now.

I have my shelf on hold right now, because dh is having surgery next week, and maybe out of work for 4 wks.  So postage for mailing books was a cut back I chose to make, and I have enough credits built up.

I ran a 3 for 1 deal a few weeks ago and all the books left on my shelf went to goodwill!  I needed to clear my closet out and had to get rid of the books that'd been sitting there for way too long!

Since then, everything I've posted have been wishlisted books.

If I like it, then I can buy the book. Why would you need to buy it? Wouldn't you just keep the one you have from here?

I probably look like a dead account on Swapadvd.  I only send out maybe 2 movies a year there. I usually move credits from PBS to DVD.  I only get DVDS from there that I know we want to keep (I get them from Netflix first to make sure).  99% are for my daughter.  Sometimes I go weeks without even loggin in although I should probably check it more often.  It'll be just my luck that my email will not put through an email for a WL offer there. Although I htink they might be all on autorequest anyway.  I only have like 5 DVDS WL over there. I go months without adding any to my WL.

My shelf is empty because I had a good clear out.

Now I only post WL books when I need credits.

I do the same on SADVD as well.

Melanie,  (I think your post is for me)

I prefer my keepers to be new books.  It a weirdness about me; all my text books from college had to be new, I don't like used textbooks and I never traded them back.  I have kept most of them (taking up a lot of space, LOL), some I loaned out and were never returned and some I gave away.

Plus, if they are the type to be in demand I hate to make someone lose out because I kept the book.  I will keep a few, but only until I can pick them up new.  Except for ones that are out of print that I have been searching everywhere for.  There I will be selfish and keep them.

So far, finances have allowed me to do this.  I know that it doesn't make sense, but that is a quirkiness about me.
