Has anyone else noticed on the Home page where new books are posted, but where you can also choose your favorite genre, that sometimes books show up there that aren't in the system?

This has happened to me at least twice today and I was so disappointed to find out I couldn't order a book I had clicked on.   Is it that I'm clicking on a book right after someone ordered it, but the computer didn't have time to "register" the request?  Or are unposted books  listed on the Home page?   If it is the later, I wonder why.   I thought the whole point of the Home page was to show books newly posted?  Or books in the system that match my favorite genres (when I've chosen some).

Anyone else have this happening to them lately?

I think there's a lag between books posted and when they actually show up on the homepage.  I also notice as I scroll thru, the same books are there again and again.  That's all the time too.  I doubt that that many copies of the same obscure book are being posted in such close proximity.

I posted 40+ books one right after the other about a month ago.  It was a couple hours after I posted them that I saw any of them on the homepage.

"Recently posted" has nothing to do with availability. It's just showing what has been posted--might be an available book or it might be a book that has 100 people on the wishlist and thus isn't available just by clicking on it. I think they're just trying to show the variety and type of books put into the system.

I never really even look at that page....I have my bookmark set to my account page so I had to actually click on the PBS icon on the top of the page to see what you were talking about

I wonder if it could also be that the book was on someone's WL and is now on a 48hr hold?  It's in the system but it's not in the system kind of thing...

Instead of going to the Home Page for recently listed books, click on the "Books Posted Today" tab. It takes about an hour for books to show up. It's updated hourly. But, you will see right away which books really are available and which were already WLed.

Thanks for the feedback.  Scrolling through the "Books Posted Today" page isn't nearly so gratifying as scrolling through books on the Home page -- AND I can choose the genres I want to see (or not see) - big plus.  Now I'm wondering if I just completely misunderstood the purpose of the Home page.

Then again....I suppose it's possible that if it was a book that looked appealing to me it also looked appealing to someone else - and if it was the only one in the system, someone else may have requested the book just prior to me.  <shrug>   Or as Cheryl and Bernhard suggested, maybe they went immediately to someone's wishlist hold.  Next time I post,  I'm going to have to look to see if wishlisted books I post to the system show up on the Home page.  I have assumed they do not, but I guess I don't know for sure.

Thanks again for the replies.
