This book was SO sad. The author's mother was a terrible parent and all through her life she was shuffled from person to person and from place to place. It's a miracle she grew up to be a competent person.

OK, she was neglected. I found this to be more of a whine session than an interesting biography. Probably most of us could have written a sorry for myself kind of childhood memoir if we were having a bad day. I would give this one a skip.

It is amazing what some parents will do. What a lonely life for a child. I am glad she was able to overcome all the hardship.

An interesting read and a testament to one girl's resilience. Paula Fox describes her growing up experiences in Cuba and across the US, shuffled between different caregivers. Amazing to think she came through it intact.
