I just finished this book, and it let me down a bit. I thought, being from the area, I'd find entertainment in it, however the story is choppy and jumps through time often, and each chapter is narrated by someone different. There isn't a clear story or progression, nor are a number of the challenges resolved. Also, very graphic.

I was sort of disappointed in the book mostly because of the way the author portrays the three main characters. Although they are all in their late twenties/early thirties their emotional level seems more like teenagers. Each chapter is narrated by one of the three characters, and although they are connected in some ways, they are each relating their own tale. Tommy especially comes off as a bouncy, giddy kid despite being 30 years old. It takes away some of the impact of his year long journey. The author is a real life reporter making his style of writing a novel even more of a let down.
