This is the first book I have read by Singh that is not a paranormal romance. I love her paranormal romance. This book is okay.

Gabe is very much like the shifters in her other series but without shifting abilities. I think he goes beyond alpha and is such a jerk to Jess that I wonder how she could fall in love with him. It might have worked a little better if his random acts of kindness were geared towards Jess a little bit more.

Jess is weaker than I expected. She doesn't stand up for herself enough. She says she is not going to be a doormat but she is for the most part. I did like the growth she encounters in her relationship with her best friend/"love" of her life. I think she does a lot of "go with the flow and wish for the best" but ultimately if things don't go well, she will do what she needs to do.

It is really hard to like Gabe but the book kept me captivated. So I would say it was a decent read. I will check out more of Singh's non-paranormal stuff.
