I would really like to hear what you think pro and con about Box of Books.  Is it worth the 8.00?  With only 100+ books on my shelf would I actually get people to exchange with me?  Just wondering. Thanks ahead of time!

I tried BoB and used it a few times, but it wasn't for me. I already have a giant mountain of books to read. So, swapping a dozen books for a dozen other books wasn't making sense, especially when not every book was one I was particularly interested in reading.

If you need to build up a library of new books to read, BoB would probably be a good idea. You can browse hundreds of bookshelves, find 3 or 4 from one person, and make an offer. If they like what you have on your shelf, you'll be able to build your collection pretty fast this way.

And yes, 100 books is plenty. I was constantly getting requests for my books from people that almost nothing on their shelf. I once had someone request 5 of my books, and she had exactly 5 books on her shelf. None of which I was the least bit interested in. Children's books I think. lol

For 8 bucks, I say give it a try. And don't feel bad about turning down swap requests if the person doesn't have anything you're interested in. I declined more often than not, since I'm pretty specific in what I want to read.

When I was a boxer I rarely had more than 100 books posted and usually just half that.  I stopped boxing because my TBR is just huge and I find that most of the posted books here are also at my library.  But I have an excellent library system.

If you decide to try it keep in mind:

You can say no to boxing offers that you get. If they don't have anything you want then decline.

You are most likely to get offers from boxers with similar books to what's on your shelf.  So if you bought the books on your shelf just to have a shelf and have no interest in those genres or types of books: you will probably be turning down a lot of BOB offers.

I did BOB for a year and I had 100-150 on my shelf at the time.  It was worth doing, but just the once for me, not ongoing.   It definitely helped reduce the number of books I wanted to get rid of because many people would request all of the books by an author, or a whole series, rather than one or two at a time through FIFO.  However, about 80/ 90% of my bookshelf was one genre in which my interest had waned.  And the folks requesting books from my shelf mostly had the same genre on theirs, so I didn’t often find good exchanges.  I ended up with a lot of books in which I had only marginal interest.  That was fine back when I had almost no TBR, but as I hung out on genre boards and talked with others of similar interests, I rapidly built a TBR of books I was MUCH more interested in.  Some of those BOB are still on my TBR and others I posted to my shelf without reading.

So I’d recommend BOB if you like a lot of different genres, or if your favorite genre is very popular with a lot of well-established authors whose backlists you haven’t read.  If you aren’t sure , spend a while browsing and rapidly putting books/authors  you might be interested in on your Reminder List without paying attention to whether PBS has a copy and without regard to whether you’d actually spend a credit for the book.  Just based on “hmmm, that looks interesting; might read that some day”.  When your RL has several hundred books (at least!) take a closer look at the list.  If most of the books have dozens of copies in the system, try BOB.  If most are on WL that don't move much, BOB is probably not for you.

Just wanted to come back and say I am LOVING BoB.  In the few days I have had it, I have sent one box and getting ready to send another tomorrow.  Wish I had known about this a lot sooner.  Thanks for all the help in deciding.
