It's worth it for some people but maybe not for others. The best way to tell if it would be worth it for you by searching Boxer shelves to see if there's books you want available.  It's only $9 a year so it's not a huge committment.

It's great if you ahve a lot of more heavily posted books that just aren't getting requested for credits.  I used to be a boxer and my do it again.  Last time I joined BOB I had swapped out most of my bookshelve books for new to me books within a short time.  I didn't renew it because I have a huge TBR and I no longer had enough books posted to any trades.  If I ever get ot the point where I have a good amount of books posted that I've read already then I'll rejoin.  You don't need a big shelf to do BOB.  I rarely had more than 50 books posted when I was a boxer.

I think it might be worth it if you are a genre reader, your shelves reflect the genre you like to read, and you can find other people whose shelves are of the same genre.

I've looked into it a little bit, but I don't think it would work for me because in the genres I typically read, I have already read the most popular authors plus quite a few of the mid-tier of authors. So, at this point, I am looking for less known/less popular authors. It is hard to find a bunch of them on a shelf together. I see a lot of shelves with one or two books that I might be interested in. It is very rare for me to see more.

And I don't really see how doing a one or two book box trade saves any money over just using credits.

I actually preferred the smaller trades. But for me it wasn't so much about saving money on postage but to exchange my more heavily posted books for ones I hadn't read yet.  It was rare that I found a shelf that had more than 2 or 3 that I wanted to trade for but that was OK with me. Plus with smaller trades there's less risk if a box goes lost or a boxer flakes out.  (part of that is because I have a huge TBR and so would already have some of their books)

You will be disappointed in Box of Books if your PBS bookshelf is not representative of your reading tastes.  Don't join BOB with nothing but romances on your shelf if you are only interested in mysteries.  Because most of the people who will want to trade with you will also have mostly romances or whatever.  I did well with BOB because I have very varied reading tastes.

Also if you do it, don't be afraid to say no if you just don't want anything they have.  You don't have to accept every BOB offer.

Also, with less than 30 books on your shelf, you may have a more difficult time making trades.

As was previously said, it isn't a huge investment, so if you're interested, try it and see if you like it. ;-)

I am a Boxer and have traded lots of times for books I want.  I didn't have any credits and it was the only way I could get new books.

If you have some credits, but need more books, look for deals in the book bazar.  After a while you'll have more on your shelf to offer

boxers.  So, in answer to your question, it has been worth it for me. :)

I rarely had more than 50 at a time when I was a boxer and I did ok. Although it didn't take long to trade out those 50 books. So of course I didn't really do any trading after that. But I felt like I got my moneys worth and it's a small way to help PBS.
