I just declined an offer because the othe rmember requested several books from my shelf, but there was nothing on her shelf I was interested in (she had mostly children's books).

I just started this a few days ago, so what now?  Do I need to send a PM explaning why I declined, or do I need to send a PM at all?  I don't want to come off as rude, but I also didn't want to send out several books and not get anything I would enjoy in return, especially since I've already spent a lot in postage this week!

You don't have to send a message at all, but if you'd like you can simply say that you didn't see anything you wanted.  I don't think anyone expects EVERYONE to swap a box with them, so I wouldn't worry about appearing rude for declining.

Thanks for that - I just didn't know if a PM was 'expected' or something!

I always send a PM thanking them for the offer. I usually add maybe we can do a BOB at another time. Sometimes I offer them a 2 books for 1 credit deal and invite them to let me know. Most members dont take me up on the offer, some do.

I always send a private message when I decline. When I first joined I went crazy requesting like 5 boxes at one time from diffrent people. I confused when the PENDING BOXES would go away without a reason. A few people did contact me letting me know they didn't see anything on my shelf and I finally understood.

So I feel it is the polite thing to do. Also sometimes I'll offer a deal like if they want one book I'll offer them a 2 for 1 deal. Or if they wanted 3 books I'll tell them they can have 3 for just 2 credits.

But that is just me. ; )

Same as the others, I always try and say thanks for the offer and I am always happy to do a 2 for one deal or if they would like to make a offer to let me know.

Thanks for the answers, that's kind of what I was thinking too, so that's what I did!
