her welcome was most peculiar, and ywt Kate Ashley, who'd arrived to teach English in Vila Nova, was even more upset by the rudeness of her imperious employer, Luis Vasconcelos. She wanted to leave at once. I wouldn't stay to work for him if he paid me a diamond a day and went down on his knees to beg, she said. Then the little Brazilian mountain town started to work its magic and Kate changed her mind.
She'd just have to avoid the demanding Vasconcelos, she told herself. But that proved difficult especially when Luis seemed determined to seek her out.......
