Mix together dry ingredients: 4 cup flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 teaspoon cream of tartur
1 teaspoon salt.
Add to 3/4 cup sour milk, (I often use milk that is at the end of the date) 1 teaspoon baking soda.
3/4 cup shortening
Cream 3/4 cup shortening
Add 2 cup brown sugar
Alternately add to the shortening and brown sugar, the dry ingredients and then the milk.
After mixed good divide into half and put into pans. Sprinkle top with cinnamon and granulated sugar.
Bake 350° for 40 minutes and the top is light brown.
Our children always liked milk with it but my husband likes coffee with it and even dunks it. I know kinda sounds gross, but he and some other friends like it that way!
