Strong imaginative characters. Excellent pick-up from previous book. NOT a stand-alone book! I was pleased with the ending. I would strongly recommend this series and this author to others (who like Fantasy genre)!
I absolutely loved this duet. The stories of Carol Berg's beleaguered antiheroes are always powerful, and this set was no exception.
Valen has stopped running, but now his demons are catching up. The Pureblood Registry has tracked him to Gillarine, Harrowers are everywhere, the devious prince Osriel the Bastard is gaining more and more power, and despite Valen's determination to give it up, the doulon still has its hooks in him. Not to mention, the land is still sick and dying, and most of the Cabal sworn to save humanity from an age of despair has gone missing. The only hope may be to convince the ancient, cold Danae to help save Navronne before the entire world falls to darkness.
If you're reading Flesh and Spirit, make sure to have this one on hand by the time you finish! And make sure you have some uninterrupted blocks of time available, or you'll end up staying up nights to finish. Excellent book.
