This book helped me understand my sons more. Seeing that I have 3 young boys I was able to communicate with them better after reading this.

Be aware that this is a conservative Christian based book. I didn't know and was surprised about Mr. Dobson's beliefs. This is not a straight ahead child rearing book.Almost every chapter I read made me want to throw this book against the wall. I firmly believe in the right to everyone's own opinion so I am offering it for trade (rather than the garbage). I am more than ready to pass this one on to anyone who wants it. 1/2 star for the cute picture on the cover.

Despite what the cover says, this book offers very little practical advice. There is no advice for day-to-day issues. And the only encouragement is for those that fit Dobson's model of the good family. We can't turn back time. I'd rather learn how to raise good children in today's culture, than continually bemoan the fact that life in the U.S. just isn't what it used to be.

A must read for anyone with boys in the house... Including husbands!

With many years of clinical experience, Dr. Dobson recognizes that our boys are under attack in this culture. ( Look at how men are portrayed in commercials even.) He has great words to encourage parents to protect and prepare boys to live successfully in this world - and the next! I have bought many copies to give to new parents and have taught the companion course - good stuff!

I read this book prior to getting it through PBS but not this copy yet. I wanted to own it as I thought it would be a good book to read every few years with some great tips and reminders as I -a mom - raise my boy through different stages.
