The Broken Spears The Aztec Account of the Conquest of Mexico
Author: Miguel Leon-Portillo
In this updated edition of the classic THE BROKEN SPEARS, Leon-Portilla has included accounts from native Aztec descendants across the centuries. Those texts bear witness to the extraordinary vitality of an oral tradition that preserves the viewpoints of the vanquished instead of the victors.

A very excellent book on the conquest of Mexico by Cortes. Gives the views of the loosing side. The sources are various records and codexes by writers at the time and usually in Nahuatl. The part I find interesting is that while Cortes's records and reports always talk of Christianity and the purpose being to convert the people to Christ. These records show almost none of this and Christ is a. a foreigner and b. their gods in anew face at best. Very Very interesting.
