I love to look through the books listed on the homepage of this site, I think its books recently posted and my fav genres. But I hate when I click on a book to read about it and then go back to the origional list slider thing and have to wade back through the entire list again to find my spot. Once when I was on here, the descriptions were coming up by just hovering with my mouse, I loved it! But it was only for 1 day, now its back to the old way. So my question is, am I not doing something right that would make browsing these books easier without losing my place, or is this just the way it is?

What browser are you using? If you are not already using Firefox, I would download it here www.mozilla.com/en-US/and try using it for browsing. There are some features here at PBS that are not compatable with other browsers.

Here is what the help center has to say about Firefox.

  • We recommend that our members use Firefox to access PBS.
    • Firefox is a FREE browser, and is the most stable and secure browser we have found.  It is the browser of choice for the PBS Team.
    • Most PBS login problems can be solved by using Firefox.
    • There are also some site features that non-Firefox users will not see, but these do not affect the use of the site.
  • If you have a Mac, you will probably need to download Firefox.
    • The latest versions of the Safari browser have significant incompatibilities with the site.
    • We have many Mac-using members, and a lot of them say they like Firefox better than Safari.
    • The site works very well using Firefox on a Mac

Hope that this solves the problem!

Thank you for the help.  I didnt know browsers would work that differently here.  I use two browsers, and I usually use google chrome when I come to PBS, but when I switched to IE the hover thing worked wonderfully!  Im tickled pink!!

I can't help you with your question, I'm with you that I lose my place unless I just hover which I can do.

Have you noticed that below the pictures of the books there are other categories?  I just noticed it yesterday.  It could have been there from day one for me and I just didn't notice it until now but I thought that was a nice feature to look at the diffirent features.

Sometimes when I hover and the description doesn't come up, I must move it a small, small amount to a different spot on the cover for the description to pop up.

I usually right-click on the books I'm interested in and open each one in a separate tab. I don't really like to hover.

I don't really like to hover.

Looking at your avatar, that's kind of ironic. ;-)

I also just open the links in new tabs.  Hovering is inconsistent and I am not fond of it even when it does work.

Course, since I just put noscript on my browser and it would kinda defeat the purpose to let yahooapis run from any site that feels like it--I don't see the home page list anymore.  Makes me sad, but not enabling yahooapis since I can't only enable them on pbs.
