Lately I have gotten by a PBS e-mail a notice that someone has requested to be my buddy. The e-mail says to click on a link below to accept the request. Well, there is nothing below that reacts to any "clicking" I can highlight said address, then right-click or left-click it. Nothing happens as far as I can tell. No acknowledgment, fo sho. ???

You should be able to find the same info / links under the Friends section of My Account.  (Buddies have been renamed Friends.)  Open requests for Buddies should be there,

I have not made myself clear. The question is how do I "approve" a buddy request.

John, if you go to the Friends page (fifth tab on your main account page, or by way of the My Account drop down menu in the navbar up top) there's a link that says "Friends Invitations", which should take you to a list of any pending Friend requests.  You can accept or decline requests from there, as well as view any active requests you might have made that have yet to be accepted by other members.

John, this may help--

Help Center - How do I add someone to my Friends?

Search Terms:

How to add another member to your Friends:

If you know her PBS Nickname:

  • You can search the Member Directory and click next to her listing there
  • You can click the link "Add New Friend" at the top left of Friends page and enter her nickname in the box that comes up
  • This will invite her to be your Friend - she will need to accept.  When she accepts, you will both go onto each other's Friends!

If you see a Post she made in the Discussion Forums:

  • Click her highlighted name to go to her PBS Profile and click there
  • If her name isn't highlighted (meaning she has no nickname), you can click on her post to go to her bookshelf; click there
  • This will invite her to be your Friend - she will need to accept.  When she accepts, you will both go onto each other's Friends!

If you are looking at her bookshelf while requesting a book

  • click there
  • This will invite her to be your Friend - she will need to accept.  When she accepts, you will both go onto each other's Friends!

If you only have a PM from the member:

  • Click her highlighted name in the To or From field of the PM
    • these names will be highlighted, even if a member does not have a PBS Nickname
  • This will take you to her PBS Profile or bookshelf
  • Click there
  • This will invite her to be your Friend - she will need to accept.  When she accepts, you will both go onto each other's Friends!

If you know her PBS User Email address:

  • Click the link "Add New Friend" at the top left of Friends page
  • Enter her PBS User Email in the box that comes up
  • This will invite her to be your Friend - she will need to accept.  When she accepts, you will both go onto each other's Friends!

Doing any of these things will send an invitation to the member to be your Friend. If the member accepts, she will appear on your Friends (you will be added to hers too).  Pending Friends invitations can be viewed from the link at the top of Friends.

If you hover your mouse over the yellow checkbox with the blue background that is at the top of the page on the right (just to the left of the "Need Help?" button... it will show you if anybody has made a buddy request to you. If you select that message you will be taken right to the page to approve the request.
