Haunted in Death is the name of the short story in this anthology of paranormal short stories that I had to buy the book to read. I'm not a Nora Roberts fan, but when she writes as JD Robb, she gets A++s for keeping the story tight and the characters interesting. You don't have a complete collection of Eve Dallas stories without this quickie.
I bought this book merely because there was a part of the "in death" series by JD Robb as the first story. I should have stopped with the first story as the other 3 tales were tedious, not well written and frankly, boring. To be honest, Haunted In Death was the most mediocre of the Dallas/Roarke series that I've read.
The marquee story is a solid J. D. Robb, but my favorite for whatever reason is "Mellow Lemon Yellow" by Mary Kay McComas about a woman whose childhood companion comes back to help her learn how to be herself after the death of her parents. The Blayney and Langan are both enjoyable as well.
In these four stories, anything can and usually will happen, from magical romance, to otherwordly suspense. As I like all four of these authors, this was a hard one to put down. It kept me interested to see what happened next.
If you don't care for Nora Roberts BUT love Mystery/Dark Thrillers with a side of romance and a dash of comedy - then I think you'll love J.D. Robb's ... In Death series written by Nora Roberts alter ego.
I won't go into the details of the books but will tell you this: Superb character development, continuity of the story line (which means you really need to read the books in order although they can stand alone) is top notch, the relationships that are webbed and weaved together throughout each page are phenomenal and let's the reader 'really' get to know the characters.
Here's a list of all the books in order (I'm leaving off the 'In Death' part):
7.5 Midnight in Death (Silent Night Anthology)
12.5 Interlude in Death (Out of this World Anthology)
17.5 Remember When (1st part by Nora, 2nd by JD Robb - stories are connected)
22.5 Haunted in Death (Bump in the Night Anthology)
24.5 Eternity in Death (Dead in the Night Anthology)
26.5 Ritual in Death (Suite 606 Anthology)
29.5 Missing in Death (The Lost Anthology)
Have to say only got this book because of JD Robb's IN DEATH novella. That's all i read, and it was well worth it. I just dont read any of the other authors, and those titles didnt interest me. Love Nora Robert's IN DEATH SERIES....
Good selection of stories of the supernatural. The the best of course, is the one by J.D Robb, "Haunted in Death". As all of us Robb fans know, her in Death series is the BEST. this is a short story...I wish it had been a full length book...but all the stories kept my interest, even though I hadn't really heard of the other three authors, I hope they will yours too!
