I enjoyed this book, and its plot twists, but had read the previous books in the series. It's possible that it might not be as pleasurable for someone reading it as a stand alone because there isn't a lot of "refresher" on the recurring characters.

New Hamsphire magazine colmunist Lewis Cole hadn't known amatuer archaeologist Jon Ericson long. Cole sets out to find what Jon learned and who killed him.
Some interesting twists plus a somewhat comical look at the academic world and what they really hold as important.
This was another of the author's great novels about the state of New Hampshire, in which I reside. It makes the mystery much more meaningful to the reader, if the setting is real.
