I have kind of an unusual Kindle question.  I'm going to get my mother a Kindle, but will not be able to set it up for her on her computer.  Can I create an Amazon account for her, register her Kindle, and put some things on it on my computer, and then have it all work okay on her computer?  She's not going to find it easy to set up on her computer, but I know what she'll most want on it right away and would like to give it to her ready to be used.

I do use my Kindle with my computer, but I'm thinking that since it would be two different Amazon accounts, it could still work.  Any thoughts?

Not unless its in Your name & you share the account.

Yes, it will work.  All you have to do is set up her account on Amazon and then purchase the Kindle for her using her account.  That way it will be registered to her account, not yours.  Amazon is web based, so all she would have to do on her computer to get it to work is log into the account you created for her.  Very easy.

Yep, Kristen is right. you can get into any amazon account on any computer if you have the user name and password, so its not a problem.

Thank you, Kristen & Anne.  That's exactly what I was hoping for.  I will create an Amazon account for her, get it going, and then hopefully someday she'll be willing to learn.

Barbara, I'm not sure what you mean.  I have my own Amazon account for my Kindle.  I want to create a new account for my mother's Kindle.  I just want to know if I start it on my computer, can it be accessed on her computer.  I wasn't going to put my name on the account at all.

I never said that I want to share the same books, and I'm well aware that you can't do that with two accounts.  I get the confusion- when I said I want to put some things on it on my computer, I meant that I'll start an account for her and under that, purchase a game and some books for her Kindle.  Sorry for being unclear.

I am giving my mother a Kindle for her brithday/Mother's Day.  She doesn't like learning new things on the computer unless someone is right there to teach her.  I will not be able to do this on her computer- I will be giving her the Kindle when I meet her for lunch this weekend.  I want to create an account on my computer so that I can get it up and running- I will not be loading my books onto her Kindle.  We have different tastes in reading and I know some things she would like, so I'd like to put them on, as well as Scrabble, since that's how she fell in love with my Kindle.  Once I hand it off to her, I won't be using my computer for it.  Next time I get up to her area, I'll teach her how to use it with her computer, but that won't be for a while, and she'll want to use it before then, especially since she'll be going on a trip in the meantime.

I can't take all the credit, ha!  I have two sisters, so we are giving it together.  Neither my mother nor I have wifi at home, so the computers are necessary.  I bought it today at Best Buy and am setting it up right now.

She loved it, and was surprised.  I loaded it with Scrabble, a crossword game, and a handful of free books, gave her a quick lesson, and promised to help her next time I'm up there.
